Someone mentioned Guatemala is very prone to hermaphrodism but I wanted to try it anyway. Ever try their Honduras? That one looks good, too.
So a little ways back into thread, I mentioned this plant that I just knew was a female , and it was my favorite. Then it turned out that it was a male…but thankfully this one tricked me
It is a girl! She’s a beauty. Two plants have my eye now. One looks much more wild than any of the others and I have liked it since it was little.
However, on the downside, two of 4 male plants started throwing pistils. I haven’t killed them yet but they have been taken out of the room. I will only use them if the other two males do the same thing. Fingers crossed they behave! Here’s the special lady…
In the 2nd picture, you can see some red colors forming…hopefully a red pheno.
Yeah. The Guatemala I pulled had a lemongrass, lemon, citrus, earth thing going on. Never hermed. But again only had the one plant. I have a full pack of an early release of Honduras. It won’t have been over worked. Never got round to popping any of those. I’ll have a look later to see what I’ve got of both packs. Very happy to send to anyone willing to do a production run who can send back a few beans. Will get back a bit later if anyone is interested.
I had somehow missed your picture before. That’s a beauty! How did you like cannabiogen Panama? How many weeks flowering for that one? Snow High used only red phenotypes for this Panama hybrid. I’m hoping to find a couple of them, but the green phenotypes seem like they will be more up my alley as far as the high goes. Hoping I get to try both types. One plant seems to have some red tinges going on and it happens to be my favorite plant. It’s a 1974 Panama phenotype.
You are more than welcome to list those with The Freaker’s. You would hold onto the seeds, and if anyone is interested in reproducing them they will contact you. You can do the same thing with the seed run coops.
Cool. Will list them in the Freaker’s thread. Cheers.
It ran 16 weeks on 12/12 from seed. I was doing a seed run so probably would have harvested at 14 weeks if it wasn’t a seed run.
I really liked the couple I had. Nice clear, strong, sativa high from what I remember. The run waa back in 2013 so it’s a little hazy ha ha
Most of the Panama are now shooting out pistils after nearly six weeks of flowering… except for one of the females. This one is far bigger than the others, and has that wild look to it. This is a jungle plant. Wild and Untamed. Snow High has done a great job working with these. I would imagine when he first began selections most of the plants looked like this jungle beast.
with most or all of the varieties I have grown, the males begin flowering before the females. This is not the case with Panama. The males haven’t busted a sack yet. Final total is 6 girls and two boys. The other two boys turned into girls, and I am letting them get pollinated by oaxacan pollen for an experiment since we wouldn’t want to use the hermaphrodites for the preservation. They sexed as males, and I pulled off the first pollen sacks, and since then they have only grown female parts. I was hoping for 10 plants to use for the preservation but at least we have six ladies.Gorgeous plants! It’s gonna be a joy to watch the flowering process progress. And although you probably wanted more males, that’s a lot of ladies to make a lot of seeds. There’s something really special about Panama. I recently heard stories of cannabis being cultivated along the Costa Rica / Panama border by indigenous tribes.
You’re doing a great job! I can tell they’re loved.
I forgot to post this here. This is a sample of the reproduction run I will be doing of this strain. It is a Mexican bag seed heirloom that was made in ‘93 and has been frozen since ‘98.
Thanks @Eudaemon. Growing these two varieties is literally a 20 year dream come true.
I went on vacation to Costa Rica 15 years ago and picked up some weed from a headshop owner that was very sativa or all sativa. Incredible taste and a great buzz. The local Landrace is called Talamanca and maybe thats what I tried. I found out later that the indigenous jungle dwellers still grow it. I wonder if its the tribe we visited on a tour? The Maleku tribe, the smallest in Costa Rica, near Mt. Arenal.
There really is. I was reading Snowhighs description again recently and he mentioned all the different cannabinoids it contains. Cbg, Cbc, Thcv, Cbn, Cbd, and others. Talk about a full spectrum plant. Probably why the buzz was considered top quality. Its too early for me to pick a favorite with these, but 2 are putting out resin already. The leaves are beginning to narrow and the plants are Looking Sativa now. The resin smell is what I remember Ace seeds Panama having.
You never know what kind of gems you might pull out of bagseed. I tried growing Mexi bag seed somewhere around 1993. The plants got Massive, but hardly even began to flower by the time the Fall frosts came. The plants did survive being snowed on shortly after planting…turned their stalks all twisty and barklike. After that experience I didn’t try growing Mexican bagseed again because I knew it wouldn’t finish New York.
Little update on the Panama. They’re starting to pump out some pistils now in most cases. The jungle beast is still taking its time, and is one of the plants that will go over 20 weeks flowering easily. The plant that I thought was a female, then I thought was a male, turned out to be female. It has the nicest structure of all the Panama. Perfect just the way it is. Here’s some photos of Panama, beginning week 7 of flowering.
you can see that there are definitely a couple of red phenotypes. Over the last couple weeks the stems have really begun to turn red. The leaves have narrowed quite a bit and the plants now look like sativas.Looks great! I’m glad you’re having the same late flowering experience with the PR. I’m running a Highland Nepalese x Panama Red from Tropical Seed Co and after 6 weeks of veg and 2 weeks of flowering, it’s just started throwing pistils. I’m dusting it with your Oaxacan pollen this weekend or next week and hoping for the best
It looks like I might have some more oaxacan pollen I can part with if there’s anybody that is positive they will use it. If you’re not positive, I will put it in my freezer and definitely use it myself.
@lefthandseeds did you still want some oaxacan pollen?
@ClassicGenetix a few of them are definitely taking their time. Some of the others are budding surprisingly fast. Flowering time was listed at 18 or 20 weeks to 24 weeks, and it looks like that’s going to be the spread.
Really …?.
You can hang onto it @Upstate. I thought I was going to run Eldorado, but ended up putting most everything on hold and just focusing on Lebanese for a while.
I was signed up to preserve PR here in Central America…return it home…no way am I interested if it’s contaminated with Mexican brick weed. Come on man what’s going on.
