i cant say anything to it unless i understand clearer how strong you selected it. whats the average Amount of Individuals you have kept each Generation… i guess im not to far of assuming 5 plants per Generation? Its still vastly different from 2 plants per generation. A single generation of using two Parents is not what i described as ultimative Deathscenario. I havend said that.
You havent battled the idea that first Signs of inbreeding is the lack of Presence. I stick to this then. Look: do some Googling. Google: “is inbreeding depression proven”. You will get 100s Results of papers who actually measure the Inbreeding dep. I once heard a Scientist say it doesent exist or so… but that can mean multiple things. Overall you will find pdf after pdf measuring inbreeding depression .
And yes, you might be right with one point only: Vitality may come back if populations get bigger again, but not that easily as you say.
If the solution would be so easily to just make 1000 seeds and all is healed, hahah, youre funny.
but yeah Vigor may be restorable over decades of huge populations, i can imagine that, BUT it still means that as long as we have the depressed stuff at hand, we dont have good weed at hand. Not as good to gather new Landrace enthusiast. So that means whole period of people not knowing what once existed (same as i have to explain people that Tripweed existed… its feeling hopeless on my side as “storyteller”, because i hear all the doubts. its really hard… ) So this genration therefore cant be motivatet easily to restore the landraces Vigor with 1000s and 1000s of plants… Just because someone explains them that what they smoke is depressed and it would be more present and fresh smoke otherwise… people will turn away… Its a dead end that lingers at the end. And awareness of it is the key… Atleast stay open for the possibility… I mean really… Google it haha.
the first two of hunderts of papers prooving inbreeding dpression: voila:
Inbreeding depression is a thing. But I think the biggest cause is the matching up of deleterious recessives. And those can be selected out.
I like to select a female or two and many males to preserve diversity. I don’t know how successful I’ll be, but I’m pushing 60 and don’t think I’ll have enough time left to create an IBL that’s crippled by inbreeding.
See and this is my reasoning for wanting like 16 kids to improve my odds that at least one of them will love me enough to take care of me when i get old and hopefully finish my work
I think so too. Two shitty parents. I have been there. An open pollination will bring back something good ime. You don’t hear of inbreeding depression outside of the cannabis world. I think this is important and is due to the fact that backyard cannabis growers are not farmers in most cases. They are definitely not normally skilled breeders.
When i first made seed in 91, it was from one male and 1 female. I have grown the descendants of those two plants ever since, with no visible inbreeding depression. Typically i grew seeds from the best couple plants the following year, until there were few great ones to be found. Then i would op and repeat the process. Worked well 27 years. Every year i got potent plants. Potent enough that i continued to grow it all those years, and even the last couple times I grew it all the plants were good. Lack of or poor selections make for mediocre weed and what most people assume is inbreeding depression.
Breeding continually one generation to the next for a number of years will do it. But i seem to have avoided it myself, by mixing different years of seed together at times, or by proper selections
But This is how it’s going to work in the future
with landrace stock maintained in small batches.
There will be multitudes to chose from.
Maybe i selected from 25 plants.
Another 25 (as an example) small time breeders/ maintainers do the same, each starting with 25 plants
I grow mine a few years. Then i buy or swap seed with one or up to 25 of those other breeders to freshen up my line. Lets say i get one seed from each of 25 breeders and then OP. The genetics of 650 plants are at play, representing 25 different lines. No depression is ever going to happen. There will be far more than 25 lines available too. How many Kush lines are out there?
I think this scenario is going to buy enough time for landraces to recover. Someday they will be more treasured than what is popular today.
I think it fair to mention Nevil from SSSC/Sensi was a big fan of breeding with one chosen male and female. And his work stands out after all these years as some of the world’s best cannabis.
My experience has been similar. I rarely do open pollination unless absolutely necessary. If you put in the work and find the right male. It makes things much easier down the line when you’re trying to isolate specific traits.
True but everything has its place i OP first then make my selection from there that way i always have the op to go back to, because using one male and female is a direct path to IBL

Hippie Cannabis Genetics Acapulco Gold. 4 weeks 11/13. Plant in the center is a likely male I was hoping would be female, I had that plant in with the SH as I would have dusted with SH pollen if female. Oh well. Just making sure here, will likely chop. These are beautiful plants, don’t look very 1960’s landrace to me, but very nice plants, getting frosty!
The two pots in the center are Snowhigh AG purple stem bx. 3 males on the left (I think) and a female on the right. The rest are SH Bodhi zipolite oaxacan x SH AG purple stem. Will chop any males of the cross, and dust females with SH AG pollen. Looking pretty upset over the low humidity in my grow room. Working on it. They are still in veg light period.
EDIT: One of the plants in the center pot left, may be female, which would give me 2 and make me happy.
Woodstock/Bodhi/MMS Acapulco Gold.
Would you look at these wild women. All females, got 10 of 12 girls, collected pollen from the 2 males and chopped them. Will use pollen from the non hermaphrodite male for seeds.
I didn’t mean to have this many in a 4x4. I have topped and pruned 4x and will likely have to do it again.
Notice how NLD they look. So much different from the HCG fwiw. These are at 4 weeks 11/13 too. Worlds of difference.
Anyone wondering about which seeds are which. I reproduced the BSHW from @royal and @Uprangewilly did the group purchase seeds. I still have a thousand or so seeds if anyone wants some.
