The Legroom: A Perpetual Indoor Garden and Other Shenanigans

Alright, I’ve been threatening to do this for a minute now, and I’m finally getting around to it. This thread will serve as a one stop shop for whatever I’ve got going on in my 3x3 flower tent. As it stands right now I’m mostly just maintaining a small library of elite clones and flowering them when the stash is running low. Whenever I get to any new seed work or preservation stuff in the future I’ll start new individualized threads to document those, but I want this thread to serve as the dumping grounds for everything else. Starting it off here, as I mentioned in my other thread, I’m going to be flowering out my keeper cut of Bodhi’s Good Medicine, as well as the Chem 91. This one has been a bit of a ways in coming as I’ve waiting for clones to root and take off. I tried my hand at cloning in soil, since I hate how the root riot plugs seem to never break down in soil later on. Long story short it was a slog, and out of maybe 2 dozen cuts taken only like 3 rooted. One was the GM5, one was the Chem. Once I dropped them in the earth boxes the chem slowly started to come to life and the GM5 slowly started dying off. I went ahead and took another couple cuts in the tried and true root riot plugs and they rooted in half the time. I pulled the dying cut and planted one of the healthy clones and that brings us to our current state here:

GM5

Chem 91

These will be vegged out to an appropriate size and flipped to flower to fill the jars. I’ll pontificate more on some of the stuff I mentioned above and a bunch of other shit too here in the future but for now I wanted to at least check the box of starting the thread with the bare minimum of information.

One quick mention here: I’ve been trying to get back to a regular posting rhythm but have been finding it difficult with life stuff going on. As many of you may know my wife and I just had a son who’s about 4 weeks old now, and in the throes of the really fussy stage which is needless to say; stressful, so forgive me if the updates aren’t as regular as I may have been in the past. I’m trying. If you’re here to watch or shoot the shit I thank you greatly, love each and every one of you that’s a part of this OG community and I’m happy to have you around. Be good.

Awesome. I just got an Earthbox. It’ll be fun to follow along and learn some stuff.

You can carefully cut away the root plugs once the clones have rooted. You’ll likely tear a couple root ends but it’s doable.

I hated that, too, this nasty green-ish spongy thing wrapped around my stalk base. It just looks bad, lol

Going to be trying my first cbd cross got some barefoot doctor (harlequin x ssdd ) germinating and stoked to see how the chem does for you recently got that clone for sure pulling up the beanbag chair and bong

You’re gonna love it man, they’re powerhouses for the soil volume they hold and allow you bed style quality while still maintaining the mobility of individual smaller pots, that was what made the decision for me. Only regret is that I don’t have room for more of em

Ive thought about this before but figured it was more trouble than it’s worth. Im gonna keep experimenting with thin gas like coco coins and whatnot too to try to find an equally effective alternative, but damned if these RR plugs don’t just fucking work. :man_shrugging:

Dude! That’s a special one for sure, I remember Bodhi mentioning that that one and the Good Medicine were very special lines, the most medicinal overall. Please let me know when you crack those I would love to follow along and get a look at those plants

Will give you a tag for sure going to try and make some f2 as well only got 7 seeds hopefully get them all above ground :crossed_fingers:

So having gone through this before, just wanted to acknowledge that it’s a nightmare lol. The sooner you realize that the kid is just going to have to cry sometimes and there’s nothing you can do about it, the better off you’ll be…mentally… Something about that newborn cry can get to ya, no shame in putting the baby in a crib and taking a 15 minute break. It’s hard bro those newborns…

Thanks for acknowledging that, seriously. My daughter was colicky when she was younger and it really affected me negatively mentally; anxiety, guilt, shame etc. etc. and all of that just got stirred right back up the first time my son was inconsolable for more than a few minutes. I’m trying to keep perspective this time around and not let it wreck me as bad as the first go round. That just looks like me wearing soundproof headphones and blasting deftones and title fight and shit while he’s raging so that I can be there for him . Makes me so grateful for my wife though, she’s a fucking rock for this family.:heart:

This is what I was gonna suggest. Baby is gonna cry anyways, might as well keep yourself calm by setting the playlist to whatever you want.

It really did the trick, I wish I’d have thought of that with the first one

Hang in there man! My little one is a bit older but he gets really bad gas and its tough to figure out sometimes… is he hungry, gassy, tired… all of the above… haha. Can get frustrating, but always good to remember crying is their way of communicating and can’t be avoided sometimes.

Thanks for the perspective brother. It really is good to know that other parents are going through the same kind of shit

Quick update here, not much to discuss, plants are still establishing in the EB’s but showing signs of growth so I’m hoping I’ll be able to fill the reservoirs in the coming week or so and really see them start to take off.

You can see in the photo that I’ve got a round of cuts taken from the 2x4 mom tent. Hoping to reset the trees that I have for mothers in there for the winter. Not much else to report otherwise, family stuff, coming down off the holidays, etc. hope everyone is well and has a good new year :v:t2:

What’s up fam, happy new year! Dropping in here with another short update. Still not much action in the 3x3 as the cuts establish in the earth boxes and the cuts for the mom tent root but here are some shots anyway:

Gm5:

Chem 91:

Funnily enough the Chem kinda topped itself and is growing with two main branches, I went ahead and topped the Gm5 at the fourth node as well to hopefully get it bushing out a bit as it grows. That probably didn’t help speed up growth at all but I’m not really sweating it, I’m not really in any rush here.

To supplement the lack of action in the 3x3 I figured I’d share some other shit here. A buddy of mine had a rosin press that was collecting dust that he let me borrow so before the kid came I was on a tear pressing a whole bunch of flower and hash that I had around. I know that flower rosin gets a bad rap but I was able to get some really great looking stuff off the outdoor plants that I grew this year. Here’s a shot of some Hill Rich from Rebel Grown here in VT That I pressed maybe 3-4 weeks or so after the chop

I picked up dans cut of this cross which I believe is and island mountain headband cross of his that he selected for outdoors, I’ve still got some of the flower to trim, but I’m real happy with the looks of this stuff.

In addition to that I pressed some bubble hash from copas P25 that I did outdoors last year. The hash had been in my freezer since I did the wash last winter and the final product for that came out super nice as well; a little dryer but easier to handle:

I also pressed some flower from Adam’s (anthos seeds here in VT) Niben breeder cut that I got off him, no photos of that right now but it smells so good I’m excited to sample. All the stuff in the photos and that I’m holding right now are cold cured in my basement and whipped and all that. I told myself I would t really fuck with rosin or dabbing, but here we are nonetheless.

Anyways, that’s it for me for now, more to come hopefully. Be good everyone :v:t2:

Hey all, wanted to update that the first reservoir fill went down yesterday. Hoping these two start to takeoff in growth here very soon. I’ll be slowly ramping up the light over the course of the next week to hopefully get them both to cruising altitude. I’ve also been doing a little bit of training. The Good Medicine I topped once and have been doing some pinching to get her to bush out a bit. As was expected she responded really nicely, and I’m hopeful that she’ll end up a nice size to fill her side of the tent. The Chem 91 on the other hand I haven’t topped since she basically went to two main branches on her own from clone. I have been pinching the top two branches in the hopes that the lowers would shoot up a little bit, but so far that hasn’t really happened and she’s just starting to look like a weird vine. I’m going to do my best to keep those two main stems in check to bring the lowers up, even if it means cutting them back a little, but we’ll see what she ends up looking like in the final estimation.

I’m really stoked to get these things into flower ASAP. My stash of the good medicine flower has dwindled for a bit and I’m anxious to have it back in rotation. I’ve been dealing with some weird health stuff since thanksgiving; strange heart palpitations that the doctors can’t really explain. It’s been a drag and while they try to diagnose what might be going on I’ve kinda cut back on my consumption on the off chance that it might exacerbate the situation. I’ve basically been keeping it to some MCT tincture and some low doses of edibles, but last night I finally decided to crack into the last nug of the Good Medicine flower that I have stashed away, and I was so pleased to get that familiar, balanced, joyful high back again. It’s basically renewed my love for this variety and has me itching to see some nice big colas in this tent and in my jars, almost to the point where I wish I had both earthboxes with the GM cut, but I gotta see what this Chem 91 is all about in a proper flower run. So, in lieu of a tent full of the GM5 I’m going to focus on getting the one plant I have nice and big! That’s all I got for now, but like I said up top, hopefully things start to jump off from here. Be good everybody :v:t2:

Sorry to hear about the health issues, I hope they’re able to figure it out and treat it!

Your plants look like they’re enjoying the earthboxes! Also I love the weird little arms :star_struck: they are amazing.

I think it’s safe to say they hit the reservoir

@C_in_CT thank you for the kind words. The 91 looks like it’s got its fists out, haha. It looks like the lowers are finally coming up a little in response to all that pinching, so hopefully she looks like a proper plant here soon

Friday check in :call_me_hand:t2: filled both reservoirs once so far and things are starting to move quick. Here’s a shot of where we’re at:

Good Medicine #5

Chem 91

Both plants responded well to pinching and bushed out. I forgot how well the GM5 responds to training in general. The chem definitely evened out nicely but didn’t really bush out to the same level. It has however gained a good head and shoulder over the GM.

I made some changes to the layout of the earth boxes in the tent. Previously I had them setup offset of each other, with the water spouts at opposite ends of the tent. Because I always plant farther toward the side opposite the water spouts, having them at opposite ends has the effect of making more space for each plant since they essentially have a whole corner of the tent to grow into. This setup allowed me to avoid using a trellis, and keep the plants more mobile and accessibly using stakes and yo-yos and whatnot.

A photo from this morning for reference:

Ultimately it was just too inconvenient to fill the box on the left, so I decided to flip them around so that both spouts are accessible from the front of the tent, an I’ll use a trellis to manage the canopy to get each plant access to 1/2 the tent. Here’s a photo from tonight to show the change:

I don’t like not being able to access and move the plants to be able to clean and whatnot, but the watering thing was getting to be a bummer so I’m gonna give the net another try and see if it’s worth it. I’ll probably try to get it up this weekend, and then I figure I’ll give them another full reservoir’s worth of time to bend and fill out the screen before I flip, which I feel like at the current pace shouldn’t take too long, maybe a week. I did a little more pinching on the Chem 91 to slow down the height it was gaining on the GM in preparation for getting the screen on there.

Anyways that’s it for today, the next post should hopefully be right before I pull the trigger on flowering, hope everyone’s doing good out there, staying happy and healthy.:v:t2:

Trellis is up.

6.5” squares was all I could find of the hard plastic netting. They had 4” squares in the soft white mesh nets but I hate how those spew threads on your buds when you invariably cut em up during harvest. So I’ll make it work with the bigger squares.:v:t2:
