@JohnnyPotseed
How do you feel about this statement?
I pulled up my standing desk and will be paying close attention!
Anthocyanins are a result of genetics; it may have been true at some point that CBD plants were an early progenitor of purple colorations, but because it was deemed a desirable trait, cultivators have bred plants to produce purple colorations for many generations. At this point in the hybridization process, I highly doubt that purple is indicative of high CBD.
I did a quick and dirty search for articles, and can’t find anything correlating with that theory.
Sorry was busy, but when I got around to answering your query, I see @HeadyBearAdventures has already answered lol
While that may or may have been true at one point, things have progressed further along the lines of breeders now knowing that purple is desirable and with that in mind, a lot of their efforts are in that direction, while going for higher THC in the process.
How can one be sure this is true?
Has anyone done a proper test to know this is true, or just a hunch here?
Are you using some kind of scientific testing in the process?
Do you pay to have samples sent out or you test at home?
Great project you guys are running here.
I absolutely love me some prowl frosty buds
My favorite
I will be lurking in the background
Good luck to you all
I’m not feeling argumentative but I have to ask this. where are all the questions coming from, and why? Can you, for a minute here, assume that you’re not the only one that has thought of these things? I was a state licensed grower/breeder for awhile until I retired this year, I also know the others involved in this project very well, to the point I think that between the 5 of us, we’ve pretty much covered all of these questions, over the months we’ve been working on this project. There are tests you can buy for at-home DIY, or also labs available, when it gets to the point they’re needed.
While I, and I’m sure the others, all appreciate your show of knowledge, please rest assured… lol we’re experienced enough to handle things properly.
This is my theory/hypothesis, I have not heard this anywhere else.
Kinda why I brought it up in the first place.
I was hoping, since you folks had access to soo many different purple varieties, you could test for CBD content.
You would then have the answer of whether or not purple is a clue to CBD content or not.
I would like to know this answer myself.
I guess I assumed someone breeding with all purple strains/cultivars would want to know the answer to this question also.
It would seem I am wrong.
There does not seem to be much interest in this topic.
Even though CBD can make high THC weed kinda bla.
I don’t mean to come across as pushy.
I would like to know the answer myself, I will never have access to all of those purple varieties so I may never know…
I understand cuz. I’m not trying to be argumentative either. The search for knowledge can lead folks down many paths
Sorry to offend!
No cuz lol you misunderstand! Not offended at all.
Maybe I spoke in a manner that led you to think that, if so I apologize lol it was more of a ‘tongue-in-cheek’ statement
Humor can be lost in dry posted chat
I’ve been toying around with the idea of putting seed trays with seedlings in the fridge to see if anyone purples up. I’ve only tried it once, and didn’t find purple, but there might not have been any to find with that particular cross. I’m gonna try again eventually.
So all I really learned was that a couple days in the fridge doesn’t seem to harm them. Eventually I wanna push the time limit too, and see how long they can stay in there, and if its a viable way to find the purple leaners early.
If you try lower temps in the bud process, that also helps the flowers to ‘purple up’ …in the vegging stage temps aren’t as crucial to this.
You stated previously you are open to suggestion.
Sooo
I suggest some thing most folks don’t ever talk about…
Some have never even heard of…
You reply is the same, I got this, tons of experience ect…
That to me says thanks but no thanks.
Sorry if that statement offends.
That is how is see things.
Good luck with the project.
If you ever find out if purple relates to CBD content shoot me a message, I would like to know what the test results showed.
Peace
Shag
No problem cuz, Might I suggest that you could attempt this yourself? then have the result tested for your own edification?
Also, please don’t forget to let us know how it goes!
It won’t show if the bud is gonna be purple, but the leaves it will. I’ve had seedlings purple in the cold. Anywho, sound like a fun project. Good luck to all involved
please let us know the results of your own experiment in that!
That sounds perfect…LOL
Just send me a copy of all those purple varieties and I will get right on it.
So you see, this makes much more sense for someone who already has the testing material.
But I am up for the challenge if you are…
Again, sorry to stirr up shit.
Just trying to further my knowledge.
I am out.
No problem at all cuz. And I actually do happen to have a few beans that lean towards purple. Shoot me a DM with your addy info and I’ll toss some in the mail for ya!
I’ve been working on isolating a purple pheno of Sour60, you’re welcome to some of em.
@shaggyballs , if you double click the image, you’ll see its a very frosty girl!
Greetings @RandomHumanoid,
I have “created” purple flowers both by accident and intentionally, but that’s not what our goal is. "Reliably Purple," means seeds that tend strongly in the direction of those lovely Autumn colors we treasure. It’s a higher bar for sure.
