The Purple Passion Project, An Introduction CLOSED

@Yetigrows As always cuz, your OGness is showing! many thnx for the offer, but we’ve already gotten more than we’ll need to carry this project to a successful completion lol that last gift was unexpected,. But that’s put so many strains onto our already overflowing plates, we’ll be a while getting them incorporated!

The Purple Passion: Update #1

GREETINGS,
If you have waded through our Introduction post at the Top, you already have some idea of what this is all about. If you are especially astute, you may also have tumbled to the fact that we are winging it a bit, at least in this earliest phase.

We know where we want to go: Bodacious quantities of a seed that expresses our passion for those Royal Purple cannabis flowers adorning the tips of a newly created vigorous and potent auto female strain.
And piles of these special seeds to help Overgrow The World.

That is easily understood, but there are a multitude of trails that lead to that summit and we are at mile marker one on that journey. We do have progress to share, roots in the soil to unveil, and pics of our the tender young plants that we hope will bear purple fruit down the road.

So, here’s the next chapter in our story and I want to begin with a little background on our PPP Team Member, @Bobgrows, who is carrying the load for the rest of us at this early stage.

Grouchy:
Hi @Bobgrows, I’ve seen pictures of your harvests and they are gorgeous! How did you come to be an accomplished cannabis grower?

@Bobgrows:
How I started growing legitimately…I was very sick. Between seven back surgeries and chemo, on many medications I was put on the liver transplant list. With all the meds my liver was shutting down. My youngest son was in college at the time. Had to present a patient for class. Professor said a real patient history was better than making one up. So he asked if I minded. What did I have to lose…I was literally slowly dying.
After his presentation, the professor asked him to stay after class. He thought he bombed…Professor asked "Has your Mom ever tried Cannabis?" My son: “No Not my Mom”! Lol

Well he came home that weekend and asked if I would give it a try. I really didn’t believe it would make any difference or help in any way. They found me a Doctor who taught me everything about cannabis: How to grow, cook, process, where to get it…everything! Every time I went he gave me more information. He was 2 hours away from where I lived, so it was 4 hours there and back.

That professor, my Son and that Doctor, saved my life! I am off all meds, cannabis only and plenty of it. Health is good . Liver back in normal ranges. My son went back to med school and will be an anesthesiologist in a year! I believe in the benefits of this plant! I will always promote and help others that need the benefits of this plant as well!

Grouchy:
You have a special expertise in growing that magnificent Congo Gelato strain. Tell us what you have learned about it.

@Bobgrows:
Well, Congo Gelato is a photo regular strain that produces beautiful purple flowers. Congo Gelato is a hybrid created from the Congolese and Gelato strains. Congolese is an inbred African heirloom sativa known for its long-lasting potent buzz. The popular Gelato is a balanced indica/sativa hybrid cross of Sunset Sherbet and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies that is appreciated for both flavor and a potent high. Grown outdoors, Congo Gelato reaches six feet in height.

I reuse my old soil by adding amendments then letting it sit and brew for at least 30 days. My plants normally go into the ground, however this PPP grow will be indoors and in pots. I top dress with worm castings and seabird guano. I only add nutrients on a needed basis, during veg stage. I go by reading the plant. Each strain has its own needs. IMO

When it comes time for flowering I do use bud enhancers for full growth. Epsom salts added after second week of flower. Twice a week, along with blackstrap molasses.

About The Plan…
Yeah, well the plan at this point is for @Bobgrows to pollinate all of our candidates with Black Cream pollen from @Nagel420’s recent work. We call this pollen “Casanova” for reasons I’ll leave you to ponder.

And that’s it for now, thanks for following. Look for an update in about a month, in the meantime we welcome your comments.

I have some killer GSC that is extremely stable and as colorful as a photoperiod could get. I actually don’t have the right flower/veg rooms as it’s an outdoor/inside Garden with a gravel floor. But I have a small indoor breeding cell that tits. So my genetics rocks and I battle humidity, and critters every year and am lousy with a camera. So I can donate some very special genetics to someone looking to some wild color killer weed. And this weed will rank some of the best weed you ever had if you enjoy a 60/40 Indica leaning that is like concentrated Durban Poison and OG Kush terpenes. It wreaks with that smell and is at least 25% THC. With the right grow room you could coax Black Weed I believe. PM me if you want some killer Red Genetics for the show.

Responding as I catch up…

The Sour-60 I grew were all somewhere in between purple and black! Lots of purple power in those beans!

Awesome to see the seedlings that will become the parents of your first generation!

How many gen’s are you all planning/expecting this project to take?

One great thing about having multiple people involved in this is that you can spread the growing out, so that no one person has to grow these for the next couple years.

Good Luck TPP

Thanks Shaggy, @MrWizard, @Papalag, @Faithisyours, @SativaKid & @Dirtron! Glad to have you following along. LIfe is more fun with friends.

Special thanks for your offer, @JohnnyPotseed is the man to talk to and I’m sure he’ll be along shortly. That IS one pretty plant!

Now that, is a very good question. We’re thinking of it like a sports elimination ladder. Everybody playing everybody at the beginning with each match pushing a “winner” up the ladder. With lots of crosses, reversals, pollen chucks, seed runs and pheno hunts along the way.

More as it unfolds, but that’s the basic plan.

The Purple Passion project: Update #2

“I see babies!”
-@bobgrows

Welcome Back, thanks for following our story. We welcome your questions or comments.

We have finalized our wish list for the project, we want to produce a new strain that is:

  • Reliably Purple,
  • Reliably AutoFlower,
  • Reliably Female,
  • Reliably Potent.

That is what we are striving for.
Here’s a rundown from @Nagel420 on the hurdles and decisions we face:

Reliably Autoflowering - Check

Reliably Feminized - Easy enough to do.

Reliably Purple - Purple buds only? Buds n Leaves? HOW purple? We can work on either or both traits. For the time being, we’ll go with “Reliable, Purple & Bodacious.“

Reliably potent, potent in which way? Again, a discussion, is this more for relaxation, pain management, anxiety management? Do we want more energetic or less? At this point, “Enjoyably Potent.”

Our venerable mentor @JohnnyPotseed also weighed in on the subject of Potency. JP is the proprietor of Frankenstein, the smoke you never tire of.

In order to achieve the type of plant that you never grow tired of or immune to… this is a pursuit of something I’d call ‘elusive’ at best lol. In making Frankenstein, I used the wife and my own ‘needs’ in all aspects of our life, both medicinal as well as recreational.

With literally thousands of plants to assess and keep for moving on or toss and abandon. The need to research strain’s lineage, and not just toss willy-nilly into the mix, based on just if the plant is ‘purple’… The need to gain as blended a crossing as possible

Potency of a high order can be reached, yes, consistency of color should also be obtainable, a pleasant flavor and aroma also.

I literally crammed more years into Frankie, than actual elapsed time, to the exclusion of so much, the wife was ‘vexed’ to say the least. I don’t regret the time I spent, or the blood, sweat and frustrations. Don’t get me wrong lol But all that said…never again!

JP is completely right and we’ve scaled our “Potency” goal towards a consistent and pleasant high, with some fruity terpenes, tasty in the nose and mouth and strong enough to let you know she’s there.

We want a plant that is memorable and rewarding to grow, beautiful to behold and delightful to consume. @Bobgrows isn’t a licorice fan. Neither is Nags, purple reminds him of berries and bubblegum and grapes. Grouchy likes the low notes, woodlands, pecans, mushrooms, umami. For now we’re shooting for “Enjoyably Potent.” All of our candidates produce notable effects so, no problem there.

So, now we have the outline of a plan. AND, we are well on our way with a stable of newly pollinated plants that I’d like to introduce.

We have the following fecund females in our tent, thanks to the talent and TLC they received from @Bobgrows.

In other news, we are pleased to add two new members to the team. Welcome @BigMike55 & @Papalag. They will choose a project that suits their capabilities and timeframe with the goal of boosting the best of their candidates up the ladder.

Here’s the basic assignment for team members:

What is a TPP Grow?
If you take responsibility for a TPP strain, you are responsible for growing those seeds, then picking among the survivor plants and breeding the two best for a F1 generation seed run. A sample of those seeds go back into the TPP Archive for the next round.

If you take TPP seeds, you will receive as many as needed to accomplish the task. That might mean all available if necessary. As Custodian/Grower, your goal is creating seeds to ascend the breeding Elimination Ladder. As a competent grower we encourage experimentation. It doesn’t matter so much which of our candidate strains we mix now, as long as there is an outcome seed-line to move up the ladder.

Along the way you’re entitled to some magnificent smoke and your own stash of seeds from your run.

And then, you get to come back for more!

Thanks again to all those who donated special seeds for this project. You folks have expanded the scope and ambitions for this project!

That’s it for now,
Adios Amigos, hasta la proxima.

I now have 10 examples of Grand Daddy Purple in beer cups. They’re one week old.
My plan is to up pot these to 2 Gallon pots in about a week and runn until I start getting my sexxes down. Pick the best couple of males (and maybe a girl or two for smoke and reg beans) and collect pollen. Store for later use on Forum Stomper Fems.

We do have some fulsome Purple Passion candidates. Here is an offspring of “Cassanova”, @Nagel420’s Black Cream x Black Cream Pollen Stud.

This one is still a month away from harvest. OctoPup grow with GH late harvest nutes @ 50%. She likes lots of light, 900+ PPFD @ 12/12. The tiny tip burn indicates she has enough of everything.

Requiem For A Breeding Project

Alas and alack friends but I’m afraid this project is ending quite prematurely.

We’ve had a falling out over how to proceed and to avoid any rancor we are each going our separate ways towards the shared goals expressed above.

A special thanks to those who donated seeds towards our efforts. If you would like the remaining seeds returned to you please contact the team member you sent them to originally.

It was fun while it lasted.
