"The Terpene Effect"

Ok, so this is gonna diverge from the common method of consumption being smoking or eating cannabis…

Obviously terpenes are in everything and are responsible for the scents we get.

I had a co-worker ask me a little while back whether we could get high just by working in a room full of cannabis. I laughed it off and told him, nope, we need to decarboxylate it, so no, merely inhaling the scents of a grow room without some method of decarb, wouldn’t get you high.

Well, I spent the day in that same room with him, and yes, I felt my spirits were elevated, I felt energized, so to speak. Kinda like at a casino. Then it hit me. Casinos pump in oxygen, sure the plants are making lots of oxygen, but this effect isnt in every room… Perhaps my co-worker is on to something. The room had Mandarin Zkittles, Wedding Cake and a Lemon strain, and the smell WAS intoxicatingly good… I started to wonder about aroma therapy, and really DO believe that there might be more to this plant than just the THC side. That room made me feel good every time I spent a few hours in it, and I really think that combination of terps is what did it. NO smoking, NO consumption, merely being in the proximity of 1000 plants…

Thoughts?

Its not getting high, so to speak. There are a number of studies confirming the resultant cognitive changes that occur from exposure to scents. The olfactory bulb has direct connections to the amygdyla and hippocampus, so anything we smell directly affects our emotions, memory, cognition, and even our social behaviors.

Ive read smell is our most linked sense to memory as well. We can forget faces and names but not new smells!

Definitely there are traces of cbn in the air if no decarbed thc, and some terps like limonene are slightly psychoactive as well.

1000 plants is no joke but without trying to vaporize anything on purpose i bet its your own feelings and hormones at play the most.
I wouldnt doubt something you inhale is at least an antioxidant, but your probably getting high off the nature and love as much as anything, as well!

Also, maybe some gets through your skin if not using gloves?

The catch here is I work in a facility with a LOT more plants than 1000… Thats just that room. Other rooms don’t have the same effect (in fact, some strains I really hate the smell of in flower, smelling like sage and oregano and basil, aptly named Robusta, reminds me of pasta sauce).

Feelings? Nope. I see thousands of plants daily for a year and a half now. Its just part of the job (albeit a very cool part!)

Skin contact - gloves we wear, and for sticky tasks (day 28 defol or preharvest defol) I wear a tyvek, but wrists get sticky icky every single day…

The interesting part is it hasn’t happened since (and we havent had that combination in a room since). We have a stable of some 40-50 strains, with 3-9 in a room at a time (hate the higher numbers, but they are usually testers, prefer just 2-3 strains per room TBH). havent felt like that in any other harvest group…

And if its the anti-oxidants, hormones, nature or love, why does it not happen doing the same tasks in other rooms, also loaded with the same number of plants, just different strains?

That one combo really seemed to effect me…

If youre touching em it could be a lot more feasible than just inhaling some stale undisturbed air of course or whatever as well. Theres def hundreds of possible chemicals in cannabis youre possibly particularly fond of.

Edit: sorry i didnt put two and two together but yea touching def ups the anti

A long time back, Marc Emery had his wife cover his whole body with a strong THC oil infusion and he didn’t feel any cognitive changes. I don’t think minimal contact would initiate a contact high. But everyone is different, so there could be a possibility… But then it would happen more often than in just one of the rooms.

I get effects from harvesting or trimming. Not stoned effects but definitely effects. Relaxing in small doses. I had a purple hindu kush that stank so bad id get headaches and nauseous after trimming all day.
