The worst mutation ever

I always seem to get the weird mutations every couple of grows. I’ve never seen this one either: it’s almost as if the ovules are not encased in bracts… just ovules stacked up by themselves out in the open. I dissected a few small buds and confirmed there are no fertilized ovules or seeds anywhere. Has anyone ever seen this before? No it’s not a male and it didn’t herm on me. In any case, I’ve smoked my fair share of bud with swollen ovules and know already this plant is going in the trash when its done… or at the very least, I’ll do a wash and see if I can get any extract. It has a loud candy smell to it, which seems like it’d taste amazing. Anyway, no pictures yet as my light’s off right now. Just kind of wondering if anyone has ever heard of anything remotely like this.

Kinda like this?

Oreo fritters. Super fussy plant but insane flavors lol wouldn’t recommend though haha

Nah I’m seeing bracts there, but my light just came on. Here’s some lousy in-a-hurry photos:

Those balls are not male parts or seeds – just normal ovules out in the open instead of inside bracts.

My first guess would be light intensity.
Is it only the tops?

No, even the lowest of buds are like that, and they have been like that before they even started stacking (from the first stigmas)

ive had that. although i did not think of it as a mutation per se but a result of being ridiculously neglected. and yeah, useless smoke. i turned it to water hash.

I had a plant look like that before, i didn’t bother growing it out due to hermie vibes.

find a calyx that was from preflower, there should be single ones growing in the convex of the branches, they always seem to mature first if you are concerned there may be seeds. Check those as it does not require sampling bud.

There aren’t any calyxes which is the problem. And no, I know there isn’t any seeds so that’s not my concern. I’d rather have a few seeds than just ovules without a calyx encasing them.

are they very hard and crunchy at the tips?

No, they are just normal ovules. If you ever dissected a bract/calyx, you’ll know how they are rubbery and soft and shrink when they are mature and haven’t been pollinated. Well that’s what I have stacking…just the rubbery ovules.

Have you tested it for hop latent viroid? In my experience some strains that are positive for the viroid show similar symptoms. If I were you I will test a few plants to make sure your plants are not positive. That way you will not spread to next grow. Good luck.
