Thrips ruining my growing enjoyment

I grew cannabis for a number of years totally pest free until the year of the Hemp Russet Mites which after battling them for 8 months I waved the white flag and burned any and all plants I had growing to include a few house plants. Drastic perhaps but it was the only thing I did that 100% got rid of them.

And then there were thrips. A hitchhiker from outdoors maybe this past fall but I can’t get rid of the little F***ERS and I’m being pretty diligent spraying them. I have some concentrated “One and Done” spray coming this week to try. I have only the 4 plants in my 3x3 growing and they’ve got thrips. No plants in my 2x4 where I grow my autos basically because I fear they will become infested too.

So at this point my plan is to remove like 85% of the leaves off those 4 plants I’ve been waiting to flip and spray the hell out of them with the “One and Done” wait a week and hit them with it again and then flip them.

I’m really champing at the bit to start a couple autos but don’t want to perpetuate the reign of the thrips.

Is there a safe way to get rid of thrips?

All in veg? I’ve had good luck with Spinosad for thrips outside. 2-3 day intervals minimum 3 times.

I had the same issue a few years ago with thrips and I killed them with captain jacks dead bug and then ordered 1,000 lady bugs. Mine came from a bag of FFOF, it was infested with them.

Might be pricey but I use planet lost coast.

I’m not familiar with that pesticide. It might work great🤷. What I would recommend is rotating through a few different kinds of insect control. There are lots of options organic, enzyme, plant based, ect that work great if used as ipm.
One I will recommend that you can even make yourself with simple ingredients is EM-5 which is a fermented concoction. Works great as a preventative/cleaner and the plants love it.

Like others have said, spinosad works well . Look at it as a 10 day program. Spray on day 1 , then again on day 4 then again on 10 (gets them as eggs and larvae on this schedule ) . If you want to turn it into a feeding event for the plants as well as protection shoot me a DM and I’ll send ya a killer recipe that kept our 18 room facility clean the entire 4 years I was there. :call_me_hand::call_me_hand:

These sprays and treatments ya’ll speak of do they eradicate the thrips entirely or just keep them under control? I spray with SNS-203 and it reduces the population but no matter how thoroughly I spray it never gets rid of them all. My 2x4 tent has been bleach/water cleaned twice in the last 2 weeks, again champing at the bit to start a couple autos.

You need to do this in a few applications, you have to kill the adults on the leaves, but they hatch from the soil so you need to do a drench as well.a mosquito larvae killer will work for the soil,do the drench three times 5 days apart,as well as apray the plant with dr doom,do this 3 times,5 days apart…DONE

So the planet lost coast completely errdicates them. Can be sprayed all the way throw even in flower and causes no problems. I’m speaking from my own experience. Doesn’t effect taste or the terp profile or mess with the trichromes. It also protects from PM, spider mites, and a couple other things. I’m no chemist to be mixing up my own stuff lmao. I don’t have to spray during flower because I do spray regularly in veg. I haven’t hit my autos with anything this cycle tho. @LoveDaAutos

I had them for a couple years but seem to have them at bay currently. Pretty much cleaned and vacuumed everywhere, then sprayed all plants/clones with sulfur water 3 tbsp/gallon. Air dried them and added nematodes to the top of the soil. So far it has been working.

Retreating if I see any.

life cycle of Thrips #planta - YouTubesns-203, Spinosad both work but note the life cycle 2 of the five they live under ground the pre adults are under the soil then come up to hump and lay eggs around we go again i use dish soap and water and a decent sprayer every other day if think about the cycle you spray once a week you missed a complete generation i hit them and hit them hard with soap leave it for maybe 5 minutes it suffocates them in less than a minute you will kill your shit if you sns or Spinosad them that much

I’m not sure if you got a bad batch or what but if you peek at my grow log you can see the infestation I had and it cleared my shit up and has kept them away.

Idk. This stuff cleared the infestation; and when I dropped the second batch the little bastards popped up for a minute but after a few sprays there was nothing left. I have heard some horror stories of it burning the shit out of plants and stuff. I’ve been lucky it’s worked.

Lots of different types. If you bring them in from outside its probably not going to be so bad. If you get them from a nursery prepare for war.

Spinosad, and Pyrethrin. can water it in, too. If you’re spraying pyrethrins, wait til lights out.
