Timing plants for breeding?

I’m new to breeding and want to give it a go once my Afghans finish up (hopefully in a few weeks).

I want to take 2 distinct landraces and breed the together so I have 5 Malawi Gold Seeds and 5 Freak Chunk seeds from The Real Seed Company.

I intend to remove the Malawi females and use the males for breeding and vice-versa for the Freak Chunk so Malawi dads to Freak Chunk mothers.

Freak Chunk takes ±56 days to flower and Malawi Gold Takes ±105 days to flower.

This means I will likely have to start the Malawi plants off well before the Freak Chunks. I’m planning on running the light cycle 9/15 from the beginning to push everything into flower as ASAP.

However male plants mature and release pollen long before plants finish flowering so if the Malawi takes ±105 days to finish flowering, how many days roughly before a male would start to release pollen? Is there any hard and fast rule for this?

Also how long do the make plants release pollen for?

I want to avoid a situation where the Freak Chunk ladies are reaching senescence and the Malawi lads have barely started cumming but I also want to avoid a situation where the Malawi lads have spunked their entire load before the Freak Chunk ladies have started putting out.

Any advice on this would be much appreciated.

If it was me I would plan on collecting and preserving the pollen separately (and individually). There are several tutorials here on pollen preservation so I won’t detail it, but a few days to dry out you can keep the pollen for years in a freezer.
(I have a long term test running to try and understand ‘how long’…)

The Freak Chunk is probably a couple weeks (genetics may vary)
I don’t know about the longer flower males, I’d expect them to flower longer but there are lots of folks here that can give you a better answer.

I wish you success on your project. :+1:

banking male pollen at any time before is a great standard as mentioned above.
alternatively without re- reading your whole post i would say you only need to start your female for 10-20 days before that male if that.
I mean at 12/12 they start to flower at similar enough intervals of time to get the job done.
Ideally you want the female to have a bud almost the size of your pinky finger hen pollinating.
Seed take about 35 days to form after pollination.

i can go more into detail if you dont find the info your looking for the only reason i jumped in here was to say please join the freakshow hybrid thread assuming freak chunk is (freakshow X deep chunk)
Also if it is i would love to work a deal out for a trade.
