Ya if thereā€™s some bits of black in the morning will use it , more interested in the ash that contributes potassium to the soils !

Nice to see a warm glow against some nearby cannabis plants !

How do you apply the ash Tiny, in water or just directly on top of the soil?

Iv done both add it to the watering can with wide open spout watering can ( my broken green can) works weā€™ll cause a rose head may have a tendency to clog up or sprinkle thin layer or the bed then water in first option works better IMO cause it cuts down in dust

Itā€™s amazing how such a say a cup of ash in say like a gallon of water lowers the ph quite a bit so donā€™t get crazy with ash when adding to the bed. I got about a 5 quart ice cream pail Iā€™ll spread over 3-4 boxes Iā€™ll be happy with that!

Thanks, that was going to be the next, question. I will add some to water and see how much it lowers the PH, I was thinking it was going to raise it like the potassium silica does.

Your right @Shadey it raises the ph my bad went the wrong way with my thought process makes it more alkaline in the the olden days it was how soap was made using wood ashes used with animal fats and such to make hard soap very similar in a way I made my soap earlier in this thread thanks for catching my blunder!

Ok lol. It wouldnā€™t have surprised me if it did go down, sometimes you just need to change a tiny bit of anything chemical/mineral and it does something completely different in itā€™s behavior.

Way cool! What kind of hops are you growing?

I went by the brew store the other day and picked up some hops for making tea. Black tea + a little hops + sodastream for carbonation makes a really nice summer drink.

@lefthandseeds Oh thatā€™s sound like an interesting drink combo my mother plant in the back yard is probably 10+ years old IIRC I believe itā€™s Willamette a good bittering and aroma probably in the range of 5% AA hop meant for good English style ales!

With a little ash in a gallon of water I can recall it hitting about 10 ph IIRC!

Iā€™d bet steeped in hot tea for like half an hour for flavor and 10ā€or less< would be more aromatic tea would be quit refreshing my have to try that ! I have enough to play around with their getting to the papery state so I think their close to being picked!

Ok you peaked my interest here @lefthandseeds didnā€™t take me long to go snatch 4 hop cones off the front porch and started the steeping processes with some black tea this will get diluted out to a quartā€¦ what hop did you use for your tea? Pellets or whole flower? mine will not be icarbonated though !

That sounds so good! Many years ago my boyfriend at the time brewed his own beer and would get these huge cans of malt. OMG! I would stick my fingers in it and lick them dry. I love the stuff. lol Hops have a really nice scent to them, bet they give an interesting flavor to that tea!

So I can detect a 10 minute steep on the back end of the sip but will probably opt for another couple hops in the next batch thanks for the tip @lefthandseeds!

Sprayed dry malt is pretty good that way too! You have my mind a turning here! Wondering if youā€™ve ever tried a scoop of vanilla ice cream in stout or porter! It is delicious ! A must try!

Nice! :joy:

Iā€™ve used both frozen (fresh) and pellets to make the tea. Usually, I just boil the tea to my liking and then take the tea bag out and boil the hops for ~10mins. I find that steeping produces a slight hop flavor, while extended boiling gets that IPA level hoppyness.

For pellets, I use somewhere in the neighborhood of 1/8-1/4oz per half gallon, depending on the bitterness of the hop. For fresh, itā€™s probably closer to 1/2oz. You just have to experiment a little to find the hopiness you like.

Agree , the one thing about pellets they seems to be a slight more hassle since they disintegrate and look like pond scum in the middle of summer nothing that a strainer and cheese cloth canā€™t fix though!

Cascade , fuggles, East Kent Golding ?
