To flush or not to flush, that is the question (Poll)

Citric Acid Flush
There is also a type of flush that uses citric acid, but I find it leaves the medium acidic after harvest.
I will look for my notes on that, but I could not find them readily.

One thing I did learn while trying out flushing, is too much water/food AKA wet roots will increase chances of bud rot ect.

A proper dry back cycle is order no matter what you do.

I have heard done right water/drought stress will work to increase secondary metabolites.

Is this something you may have observed?
Like increased frost ect.?

Do you do it for that reason (frost) or just so they donā€™t get wet late in flower?

I just finished a grow about 2 weeks ago. my flush consisted of watering with clean water for last 2 weeks of flower. then 1 week out from assumed cut time, I ran triple the amount of water as there was soilā€¦ so 3 gal would be about 9 gallons. all in one sitting ā€¦

I let mine go really dry this year, honestly I think trich production slowed a little. It could be just me tho

That would slow production, drought stress is like goldilocks gotta be just right or else.

When the buds are so dense near finish I limit the water in an effort to prevent rot. Nothing more fancy than that.

I have noticed no difference except less rot.

Thanks!
Still a nice move! :star_struck:

@shag I honestly didnā€™t read all the comments in full. Butā€¦I was surprised not to see any references to gypsum, or did I just miss them?

Late to the Party as per usualā€¦
But we flush between veg and 12/12ā€“then again at the end of bloomā€¦
I notice a big difference, in fact- often when we flush at end of bloom, they put out new pistils and put on more weight the last week or soā€¦
With light feeders- we donā€™t bother between veg and bloom unless they seem to need itā€” but it is a MUST with heavy feeders, or they seem to get locked-out about 3 weeks into bloomā€¦
Just our personal preferenceā€¦

You miss it poodle it was very shortā€¦LOL
I know you are still feeling under the weather, so I cut you some slackā€¦ this time :face_with_monocle:ā€¦LOL

@crownpoodle
This is something you have started to do now and again ā€¦ right?
Has it fixed any issues you had going on since you started?
Do you recommend it to others?

Peace
Shag

I voted no I do not flush - in that I do not finish a harvest giving plain water

I was taught, and implement when needed, a ā€œflushā€ during a grow if Iā€™m getting weird burn or something funky I canā€™t figure out and want to try and get the medium/root zone to a zin place

Iā€™ve been doing it weekly for the last couple grows. Gypsum with a light feed to run-off. Checking ph and adjust from there next feed. Had some burnt leaves, but from light or fans too close, not feeding. Amazing I paid that much attention as stoned as I stay.
I see no drawback to using it. I use Diamond K solution grade gypsum. Thereā€™s some good threads other places. Iā€™m shitty at linking. Google works or message me. Some serious users of it, having what looked like excellent results. Besides, it was cheap and I have a big fucking bag.
I have not had the same issues you watched earlier. Still not finishing as strong as I would like, but thereā€™s some jems in this last batch. Found myself just staring at the TSD x RAB hanging earlier. RDs got me twitchy(er). Just beautiful! Bummed my nose doesnā€™t work yet. The missus says the opposite of sweet. Funky chemical smells. Gee darn.
Note added here for safety. This shitā€™s nasty on the skin. Sucked all the moisture out of my hands so fast. Gloves and a particle mask minimum. When I get in the big bag, I pull the paint mask out. Itā€™s so fine. Would that be considered ā€œmicronized?ā€

I feel like this is such a split thing in growersā€¦ we really need to get to the bottom of it all once and for allā€¦ how many growers are here?? We could answer this in no time if we all just started putting true input in on a side by sideā€¦ I plan on curing in a cannatrolā€¦ but neverthelessā€¦ I want the MOST flavorā€¦ the MOST trichome preservationā€¦ the SMOOTHEST smokeā€¦ so seriouslyā€¦ we should end the debate somehowā€¦ and letā€™s get a real test going on itā€¦ like many side by sides with many different strains and nute regimensā€¦ letā€™s see :eyes: and scientifically prove the truth 1 way or another.

@Terpsnpurps , not trying to be a troll here at all, but start listinā€™ variables. Not just the normal ones either. Iā€™m not speaking from experience, but mostly from the questions I was asked on another forum when I had any issue/problem/solution. Couple years ago and still looking back. Reading. Learning. Then the fuckers made me wonder why I do stuff. Dang it. What? No more ā€œmonkey see, monkey doā€ shit.
Was there ever a nutrient lockout ANY time during the grow? If peat or coco based did it ever dry back too far? How was that addtessed? More than once? 8-10 weeks flower, plus veg too is a long time for everything to be "perfect ". Ph or ppm never out of whack? I donā€™t usually see what kind or size perlite was used, just how much.
Pot sizes are bullshit too. How much soil/medium. Measured how? EXACTLY how much water/nutrients per gallon of soil, how often.
Think strains matter? Seeds or clones? Just goes on and on for me, but Iā€™m not well. Been sick too.
Not a can of worms, I want a worm farm.

All depends on what type of inputs your giving your plantsā€¦

Lmaoā€¦ man the variables should be for the test not my prompt to do a widespread testā€¦ what I was sayingā€¦ is a widespread test among many growers all putting accurate info in only will end this debateā€¦ and we could end alot of debates like thisā€¦ in this way.

I didnā€™t misunderstand ya bud. I think we inherently like to disagree, stir the occasional brown trout stew pot. Great idea. Good luck with much agreement.
Different forum folks were discussing weighs. I said growers might be like fishermen. They tell about the same fish years later, but the fish get bigger, fought harder, tasted better. One guy got bent, said I accused him of lying, went as far as photos next to stuff for ā€œproof.ā€ This person wasnā€™t even on my mind! Guilty conscience? I donā€™t know, but I felt bad, apologized for any perceived, while unintentional slight. He left pissed. I was bummed. Good guy with lots of knowledge.
I fill jars. Big ones. Havenā€™t run a grow across my fillet knife (ohaus) in years. Just donā€™t care. I5 have plenty. Itā€™s good. All I need.
If I thought someone in particular lied to me, Iā€™d confront them directly, not some veiled comment. Not in a public forum. Not shy or thin skinned.

According to my highly extensive scientific testing flushing is a waste of time and possibly even detrimental.

I can be on either side of thingsā€¦ no offense taken hereā€¦ I do have very thick skin etc so no worriesā€¦ I agree w the fisherman comment lol ā€¦

As far as this testā€¦ it would help like what @Foreigner saidā€¦ but letā€™s include all the info in testsā€¦ I know itā€™s a lotā€¦ but letā€™s get to the real dealā€¦ the black and white on itā€¦ @Foreigner I have heard the sameā€¦ that flushing can be detrimentalā€¦ butā€¦ is there actual proof? Besides just someoneā€™s word?? How can we definitively solve this once and for all?

By doing a run of identical clones and flushing some but not others. Iā€™m not going to do it though.
