Nothing like the Knights of Columbus Friday night perch fish frys! @TopShelfTrees1 your close enough to the mitten you might know of these.

I have not been but know of them for sure. I would say perch is a very close fish to some perfectly done rainbow. I’m dying to get out to Michigan again though. And I’ll agree northerns are a bitch! Bitch to unhook too, I got sliced as a kid real good, musky got my dad, needed stitches and all. Toothy bastards as well as bony!

What is a Northern Pike? :joy:
I make fish cakes with the smaller ones. I boil the meat and than de-bone it before making the fish cakes. The 5 fillet method works great. My Dad guided at a lodge for 17 years and was like a sea gull when it came to eating fish. Lol

Oh man , I bet that was pretty cool for you, was actually a dream of mine when I was younger .

The bones in a Pike are vestigial bones from when they had legs, I believe.

I’ve seen Carp put in a pressure cooker before. I never ate any but the people that did it say the bones soften to where you don’t even know they’re there. They can it in quart jars. Said it was a lot like tuna from a can. lol

Ya I’ll skip the carp all day but northern Pike or muskie can be a bitch but some good eating in e done dealing with needle bones.

It was amazing, until I moved away and come up to visit. Then he would make me guide so he would get the weekend off. LOL
There was a waterfall at the lodge and I would swim there with a buddy with a mask and snorkel. We would catch huge Bass. One of us would be on shore with the fishing rod and the other guy would feed the worm to the fish. We used to get tons of big bass this way. When we got to the cleaning shack, the guests would always ask where we caught them and we would tell them, down at the falls on the most expensive lures the store would sell. The area was full of big log crates and almost every second cast was a sure break off. After the weekend was over we would go diving and fill up our tackle box with brand new lures and wait for our next marks coming in it was great times.
One time a guy asked what I caught a monster bass on, I told him a fat rap, they were $10 in the store. He said thanks for the info and ask if he could take a picture picture of his boy holding the fish. I said sure and as he grabbed it by the mouth, it opened up and my broke off jig was in there. LMAO I quickly said I must have mixed up my fish, but I think he was on to me.

Bahaha no shit! Smart dad, oh man that sounds like so much fun! We have a spot at the gorge with a huge calm bay, we actually call it bass bay. In the summer I’ll climb in real calm and stand by the slit in the rocks they live in (it’s like a crazy cave created by the rock falls with just a small maybe 6-8” across opening to get in so it’s SO HARD to cast in there especially since you have to stand 30-40 yards away to get the angle. I’ll do similar and drop the minnow in there (they love a white powerbait 3” or 5” no joke it enters and WHAM! but you gotta pull with all your might instantly after setting the hook to pull those donkeys out! It’s a blast and I’ve gotten a couple 6’s out of there in fact. They have nests and are there year after year, big old monster smallies! I love the sending them for wicked expensive gear and cashing in! I’m the guy that’s constantly scouring fishing areas for stuff, it’s absolutely dumbfounding what fisherman will leave behind. I’ve found full setups at least 5-6 times, tackle boxes, hip packs, scissors, knives, sunglasses , phones , hats galore and a small fortune in lures
Great minds bro!
