TrevorLahey's Low Budget Growing Part 4: "The Hunger Games"

Day 31

This is right before lights out. I did some pulling down of front right and back left plants. Came up with an idea to use elastics and soda tabs as a quick take on take off plant tie. It worked really good I’ll be doing this for sure in the future.

I’m tired and sore and really can’t be sorting through good and bad pics tonight so I’m just dumping all of em, sorry for lack of curation :stuck_out_tongue:

Day 32

At the half way point here now. RH has been quite high and I’ve had some fuck ups during training and let me tell you… these girls are not happy with me. But I’m hoping they’ll bounce back.

^This yellowing is strange to me, seems like I’m underfeeding but I’m giving them a more than healthy dose of MegaCrop 3 times a day @ 1050ppm pH 5.9-6.1

Things are starting to smell funky and algae is coming back so I think it’s time to add more Calcium Hypochlorite to the reservoir. I’m tempted to try 5-10ml/gal of 30% Hydrogen Peroxide this time instead of the Ca(ClO)2 and compare results.

It won’t have the staying power that the pool shock does, but i’m interested to see how it pans out for you anyways.

I feel like I’m getting about 5-6 days out of the shock and this is the same as what I used to get with H2O2. But to make sure I think I’ll add 20ml before next watering and see how it goes.

as for the yellowing, one of two reasons imo.|

Either those spots are directly under a light, and or just new growth, as the new growth typically is lime green on these plants

Probably a combination of both. That’s the innards of the plant in question after having all the colas pulled aside to expose them to light.

Day 33 (evening)

Pretty sure the stretch is over, not seeing any vertical growth at all these last two days.

And some bud porn:

Also added 3ml/gal of H2O2 to my reservoir tonight, it’s almost empty anyways and will need a change tomorrow for sure.

EDIT: Oh here’s a look at my little (Day 17) Purple Kush Auto, I was late getting her in here and I’m glad I was so late else she’d have no room with the other 3.

Day 34

Afternoon res change. Dumped old stuff out as it had some algae and sediment and wiped and cleaned everything. Filled with 1000ppm megacrop, 77ppm tap, 33ppm calcium hypochlorite (I forgot about my h2o2 plans) and a few drops of pH up to 5.9-6.1. I can get maybe two more res changes out of my megacrop. At this rate it requires changing every 5-7 days. It’s gonna be tricky keeping these fed through til harvest but I’ve backed off watering to twice a day now to keep the algae in check. This should use up about 2-3L a day and I’m filling the reservoir to 18L so I got two weeks left of food if im lucky.

Pulled some tops down but I can see I’ll be doing light training right up until harvest especially once foxtailing begins.

Mold and algae on the top of my soil today, sprayed it with a high concentration solution of h2o2. Would it be a good idea you think to add some new coco over the stuff with algae/dead mold?

4 weeks to go! Getting excited now as I’m really seeing the big picture of microgrowing and autoflower. My biggest plant if left untamed would be as big as what I’m used to with photoperiod strains.

Day 36

I know I skipped an update yesterday. Phone was dead at the end of the day I just needed some sleep.

Things are going well though.

Looks like they recovered from the defoliation pretty well. :+1::seedling:

hey bud really enjoyed reading this. in regards to the algae in your rez, sounds like there might be light getting into the rez causing the algae to grow. do you have anything to keep it mixed up? i use an air stone in one rez and a water pump in the other to keep them mixed up

Thanks for stopping by. Yes there is some light that makes it to the reservoir which I’m sure contributes. Was a design flaw that will be fixed in the next grow.

I do use an airstone and airpump to keep the water aerated. The algae only gets bad after 5-6 days which is when I usually change the reservoir anyway, but on the 6th day if I don’t change it, I’ll have algae on my topsoil after watering.

Since I just changed my reservoir for example, theres no algae on my topsoil or in my reservoir. Give it a few days lol.

Lordy lordy it’s day number 40!

And still not sure what to do about this white mildew/mold or whatever it is.

Amazing plants, nice to see how this is turning out ! They love you back
No need to concern for the white stuff

Day 42

Evening reservoir change, brought all the plants out and did some cleaning and primping too. Man they are getting so fat this is exciting I wish I took a pic of the big plant outside of the cabinet but it’s huge! Big photo dump incoming, as I don’t want to sort through all these pics. Also snapped a pic of the skraggly back left plant for those curious about how it’s doing (@Mr.Sparkle)
