TrevorLahey's Low Budget Growing Part 5: "The Ghost and the Darkness"

I’ve grown a few of them out but they never were as good yield wise as the normal growing plants. The one posted earlier in this thread was stunted so its unlikely to reach it’s full potential. I’ve just popped more seeds and got another one, only this time it’s only 3 cotyledons and the leaves are still in pairs. Plants are weird lol.

Good to know, I’ve been thinking about grabbing some of this for later flowering to replace mega crop. I still love MC for veg though!

I am not even close to having a green thumb, so these weird things are what help keep this from being boring to me  I love finding new things to keep me interested.

Mega Crop was great for me when I was growing in soil. Not so much once I switched to hydro. My water, and the crap that lives in it, just isnt compatible with Mega Crop. I had to switch to a nutrient with no organics in it. Jacks 321 (similar to the maxibloom price wise and chemically) is working great for me now.

If your in the states jacks is the option id be going with, but up here its hard for us to get the hydro stuff so maxibloom it is and i use to run maxibloom in the past so just going back to it for myself, but i need to figure out base levels and such which is gonna take some time as i run different now.

Saying that reason im shying away from the Megacrop like Trev is it just isn’t working for me anymore and is too much hassle for my setup and how i run.

The V1 stuff worked good, but the v2 and v2.1/v3 stuff is different it’s EC window is alot smaller, and the pH want to creep high quickly and when you seem to be running in that happy zone your bordering on either deficiencies or excess in different elements which is probably due to a combo of pH issues and possible miss balance in nutrient levels which has been suggested “oh just run a PK booster in flower” well its not a one part anymore then, not to mention the probable organic content makes things prime for bacteria and algae to flourish which screws with you pH levels your trying to keep balance of.

For soil or soil like mediums where your encouraging and there is some organic break down and you run at a higher pH i bet it would work decent with the new formulations, but it just isn’t working in a hydro like setup, also there is at least about 5+% of undissolvable content by weight in the newer stuff regardless of what some may say as i’ve measured it after a few tests…

Just doesnt work like it did in the v1 formulation, or at least that just my opinion on it in its current formulation, i can’t speak for anyone except myself but if you look around quite a few are starting to see issues or problems…

Beautiful work. That’s one hell of a way to start the year.

I tried it in organic soil this summer. Megacrop seems to cause a deficiency in my plants every time. The plant I grew out with cheap ass 8$ Alaska fish fert came out much healthier and just better all around. I’ve become very turned off to Megacrop personally.

Day 62

Chopped GTxSBR #2 today. This is the one that hermied in early flower. I thought I had removed all the pollen producing bits but missed just ONE lol. I’m sure it didnt do all the damage but theres a ton of mature seeds in this plant, and lots of micro seed from a more recent pollination. Sucks but whatever will get plenty of good bud and even some feminized seeds I might try growing outside this year for funsies. Even had some pollen hit the other plants and got some mature crosses.

Also chopped the purple Dark Spark. Smells sooooo good and grapey.

And all the nodes were like this. Pretty crazy lol.

Also chopped the little Dark Spark runt. Wanted to kill it 100 times, glad I didnt.

So the bridgelux tent is empty, will do some housecleaning tomorrow and get ready for next run.

Now theres something to get excited about!! I really only go there when its garden season, I prefer the Great Canadian for most things.

And yeah pretty pleased with the results from this round, considering the few stumbles I had at crucial points throughout the grow.

Going to do some vacuuming and cleaning up today if I get a chance. Gotta mist everything down to sterilize any pollen laying about. Also wondering if I should try and recycle the used soil from this round, where it’s mostly exhausted anyway.
