TrevorLahey's Low Budget Growing Part 5: "The Ghost and the Darkness"

Have to turn down the exhaust fan, I’d just redid my setpoints for my fan yesterday and will be playing with it over the next bit.

It’s just the basement the tents are in is usually 15 or 16C so unless I add heat theres no way to get it to a nominal temp.

I’ve tried turning the exhaust down, and put it on a thermostat too but it really doesnt make enough of a difference. Just that time of year.

About time.

I dont even wanna talk about the other ones they are pitiful and sad to say the least.

And now gotta get the bridgelux tent up and running again. I tested this coco a couple weeks ago and the runoff was like 1.9-2.0EC and I really dont wanna wash all this stuff out but I might have to. CYCO coco is supposed to have some minerals in it out of the bag but I feel like that’s really high for fresh out of bag.

I agree 1.9 EC is high for fresh coco.

Day 20

Sigh… well… idk

The only thing I can think that is causing it is the temps or the coco Trev. They might be getting wind chill from the fans :frowning:

The left side I’m not worried about they’re just lab rats for my experiments. The right side is what I want to grow but even they seem really slow compared to what I’m used to.

And as far as fans go, I only have 2 of them running currently on opposite corners and there isnt a whole lot of air blowing on them at all.

get that fan on a thermostat or controller, that way it will only extract when it gets warm enough
and maybe still ph/feed imbalances ?

Day 23

Well I guess maybe the right side looks ok. Left side is a joke lol.

@Mr.Sparkle I turned the fan off completely and lowered the master fan too. Been feeding at about 1.4ec Maxi and pH in the high 5s. Idk lol

they are growing still, i meant more the extraction fan and turning that down or running off a thermostat just to try and get your temps up, but the internal circulation fan yeah keep that going

Yeah thats what I meant. I have 3 extraction fans. One inside each tent, and one on the end of the Y where both my hoses come together. I meant I turned all exhaust off for that tent. 22-24C is as good as its going to get lol Basement growing… really dont think 22C is that bad as I’ve got this strain going in way cooler temps than that. I think it was just something with my pre-charge of the coco.

Remember that coco I had tested at 2.0EC earlier in the month? Well I went to wash it out today and the runoff was 475ppm, I’m thinking I’m going to just run with that as to be honest I’ve never had issues using coco right out of the bag without even considering the TDS. Maybe me trying to do too much with the coco was the issue all along.

They should grow at 22c just a bit slower than with higher temps I find, but as you don’t have to worry about chilling your bacteria, it just comes down to expiration, being less in a cool climate, I suppose.

Temps are dropping drastically tonight for the next several days
That means the heat pump will not work past minus 10 as it’s old tech. We will be switching over to the infrared heaters, and shut the heart pump down. When it goes on auxillary it uses 11 kilowatts an hour, and hardly heats the house, so it’s more efficient to switch it off and run infrared. I looked into upgrading it to a modern one but at $15,000 it’s a no go.

Nice lighting system . Bet you had no issues with that. Plants look pretty healthy.

Hows it going Trev, where you hiding at?

My garden sucks and I’m too embarrassed to show it since I’m two months in and still dont know what the problem is.

My mental health is in the shitter I’m barely holding myself together to be completely honest :confounded:

Hope things turn around for you @TrevorLahey and don’t forget you can always tear it down and start from scratch

What I’m looking at right now:

And new ones started in bridgelux tent yet I still dont know why my plants are growing so slow.

Well they are still growing buddy even if they don’t look 100%. I get depressed as well when my grow is not right. Its amazing how it affects my happy vibes. You just got to :persevere: and hope they grow out of it.

What about a small heater in the tent rather than the basement, I am seeing heaters for $15 on FB market place around here. That’s how I keep the heat up in my tent and clone cab in the basement, or a germination heat pad would give you a bit extra heat, I am sure that’s your problem atm.
