I’m in a prohibition state and none of the shops closest to me offer rentals. I looked. The closest is a three hour drive one way

for personal/non commercial use i guess it comes down to how much you value your time. 4000$ is 100 hours at $40 an hour.

The mechanized trimmers that I’ve tried/seen lower the grade of buds too much. But good hand-trimmers sure are hard to find where I live. I feel your pains 
Best I could do is rent you my boy, Doug-the-Slug

I don’t think anything good can come from tumbling buds in a barrel or bag.
Wet trimming is my choice, while the petioles and leaves are still perky they are easier to cut off and if held by the stem the buds never even get touched so the trich’s stay right where they should be…

Hmm, I trimmed up 36 grams off two plants. Took me maybe two hours. Not quite jail, more like trim trip to the MVD.
