Trim Sugar leaves?

I’ve been meticulous in trimming as much of the sugar leaves off the buds before curing. I’ve seen pictures where the cured bud definitely has Sugar Leaves still on the bud. So, my question is should I trim the Sugar leaves or leave them be (no pun intended).

Depends on who’s smoking it. If it’s for personal use you don’t really care what it looks like as long as it does it’s job. The harshness from smoking the leaf will reduce with longer cure. If the leafs are coated white with trichromes why trim it off???

I’d say less trimming if the suger leaves are covered in frost ,unless your looking for bag appeal ?
Or you have a use for a bag of trim that’s going to make you a lump of hash or edibles I prefer loose trimmed for longer storage times as I believe it also helps protect the buds from dropping crystals while in storage !

Thanks, makes sense, they certainly were sticky so I’ll bet they are worth keeping them on.

Great points No need for bag appeal, only for personal and a few lucky friends. Question on using for edibles, I do the easiest form of edibles, decarb bud, grind fine and add to cookie mix and bake. Certainly does the job. Could these leaves be used in the same way?

I like to squish the material I don’t smoke as flower.

@GreedyFly yes suger leaf trim works great for making several variations cooking,RSO,hash, balms, creams etc! Buds are for squishing or smoking !

I would not see why not. I have been pondering (yes, I’ve stated previously how I like to ponder on subjects) that, any part that can be smoked, should be able to be used for edibles as well, shouldn’t it? Or, maybe… just maybe… I toked a little too much, between ponders.
Nah! That’s Definitely Not The Problem!

Been getting what I would call a smokers cough, even though I limit my light smoking to 3-4 times a week. Finding that the cookies I make more than do the job and less coughing. Maybe should try a dry herb vape. Can do half a cookie on weeknight, and all is well. 32-36 cookies a batch so lasts almost 2 months.

the only reason I remove most of the leaves is due to the harshness of the smoke in the leaf material. That is the only reason. I found after I removed as much of the excess leaf the smoke is a lot more even or clean to me at least, I suppose it depends on what you prefer.

I do enjoy a close trimmed bud to smoke but for cooking ,making oil etc your wiping the goodness off the bud and suger leaf /stem more equals a bigger chunk or larger jug of oil .
Your absolutely right on improved taste and smoothness with less leaf .

Just courious how many grams to a batch I’m guessing your using bud to make them?

Hi @ShiskaberrySavior personally I make infused MCT, or coconut oil at the ratio of 1oz to 500ml of oil.
i personally have it with coffee… bulletproof coffee with a kick

It’s purely subjective if it is just for you. And then there’s that objective mode that equates to bag appeal. Even this though has variables, but typically only wide leaf will be left on manicured flowers enhancing the shine and little by little in bulk when moisture content is high they can weight more than you might think…

I trim off all the big sugar leaves and keep the smaller ones, I put my scissors up against the bud and cut off what’s sticking out. I use all the trim to make bubble (water hash) so I prefer to cut of my sugar leaves but nothing wrong with leaving them on, some people prefer to leave the leaves on and trim after it dries.

Sorry, been work busy. The last batch I did I used 10gr of prime bud. Decarbed in oven @ 240 degrees for 60 min. let cool, make sure all stem pieces are removed, I use old coffee grinder to grind to fine powder. Add that to dry cookie mix prepare as you would and bake.

Oh, and the baked cookies freeze well.
