Here we are on day 37 since flipping to flower. This is one Tropicanna Cookies girl in a 3 x 3. She reeks of creamcycle orange sherbet type smells as soon as the tent is opened followed by skunk and under that dank. She’s oily sticky to the touch. When you smell your fingers after touching her it smells like orange candies. Yesterday was the last day with Big Bud in her food. Now she will transition to putting on weight. She’s in a 15 gallon fabric pot. There’s ladybugs running around in there all over. They have a little house beside my girl. Total cola length on the tallest colas is nineteen inches so far. Lighting is ViparSpectra KS3000 with 8 three foot Barrina led lights as supplemental side lighting.
Here we are on day 38 of flower. I’ll post daily updates until she’s smokable. Then I’ll be working on a monster cropping of the lower eight inches I’m going to leave on her after harvest. That’s going to be fun. I’ve never done that before so I’ll be learning as I go. I also plan on cloning her to reverse one to make selfed seeds and female pollen for future projects. She’s special. I’ve already sampled a few baby popcorn larf nugs. They had shown up on trimmed up lowers around day 24. At that point she didn’t have any orange aroma, just strong skunk. The baby buds didn’t have any smell as I left them on a countertop to dry for a few days before sampling. The taste of pine is immediate. She coats the mouth with a pleasant minty pine taste that lingers long after smoking her. It’s kind of like parsley in it’s effect.
As you can see in the pictures she’s finally starting to frost up a bit. Hopefully that will pick up here as we enter into the 40’s. The underside of smaller fan leaves are coated in resin. Frost rails are starting to develop here and there throughout the canopy. Today she smelled strongly of oranges when opening the tent. Bracts are swelling up here and there.
This is beautiful! I love the training and perfect canopy. Those flowers look so healthy, happy, and thick! This is honestly what I was going for to begin with but family came first for four days. She grew eight inches on me during that span. I’ve pivoted and now having that extra growth is going to give me a excellent opportunity to monster crop her through to another harvest. The next run will only have forty colas. I plan to grow them massively thick and sixteen inches tall. So far that seems to be about the max penetration depth for this light to make nice sized flowers. I think that’s great for a three hundred and twenty watt light. Through use I’ve discovered the actual usability for distance from plant is ten inches so from ten inches to twenty six inches deep you’ll get light penetration enough to grow flower. Total flower depth may increase if the colas continue to grow upwards. I wish I would’ve purchased T8 lights instead of T5. The penetration is about double and it’s the same cost. I will normally be using them for cuttings and babies vegging. I have a 3’ x 4’ tent. It has two extra 1’ x 3’ x 3’ shelves. I use that space to hang my exhaust fan setup, hold nutrients, and house my electrical currently. I saw the opportunity to do an experiment and see if using them as side lighting would make a difference and if so how much. It turns out that so far it’s made a drastic difference. I only expect the gap to widen between the size and quality of the buds between the extra light buds and regular buds. That little bud shot I took is one of the side light buds. Those lights are crazy high in blue and balanced full spectrum otherwise. It should be interesting to see the total differences. The stems are all hot pink as are the leaf veins and stems that are within eight inches of those lights. That’s the max penetration depth with those. It will be interesting to see if she turns pink. The gentleman I received the cutting from said she turned neon pink when he grew her out. He turned everything into rosin. This cut washed for him at 4.5%. Not too shabby.
I got off track there lol! What strain are you growing in this picture? Have you harvested? If so how much did she weigh in at?
I am at week 5 in flower atm, these are Lemon Skunk and Franco’s lemon cheese from Green House Seed Co.! Im using the Vevor 400w LED Grow light. Its got a great spectrum on it, but i plan on upgrading to the Mammoth Lighting 4 bar Nova Sun Seires when i upgrade! It has far red and emerald green in the spectrum!
That light sounds intriguing. I’m going to have a look at it. That lemon cheese sounds like a crowd pleaser for sure. I love blueberry cheese so I bet I’d love this one too. Anything crossed with skunk tends to be amazing so it’ll be awesome to see these already big girls start to really pack it on in the coming weeks. Are you going to defoliate again and if so when? I’m debating defoliating tomorrow as it’s day forty for my girl.
Today is day 39 of flower and I have a quandary. Do another full schwazz tomorrow, do half of her and leave the other half to see the difference, or leave her alone to do as she pleases? I’d love to hear what you think I should do tomorrow.
Bracts peppered through the canopy are starting to look like peas with frost on them and a cream colored curly q stigma poking out of the middle of them. I love that sativa bud structure. Leaves are looking a touch burnt on the edges. I raised the KS3000 an inch. That should help with the leaf burning issue.
I assume this is your grow light and this is the one you want? This is my main light and this is the auxiliary/seedling and vegetative growth lights.
Today is day 40 for my Tropicanna Cookies. I got one corner of the garden schwazzed. That’s the last picture. Hopefully tomorrow I’m going to schwazz the rest of the garden. The airflow is being cut off due to how thick she is with fan leaves. I may leave one bud alone as it’s in the top left corner without much crowding. This way I can see what she looks like if I’d left her untrimmed.
Here we are on day 41 of flower. More defoliation of fan leaves today. Buds are stacking decently and are starting to fatten up. I’m told they reek of skunk by people that don’t partake. All I smell is more intensely of orange tropical punch today. I took the leaf picture to illustrate that there’s trichomes and resin on them. Most leaves have resin rails on them to the tip. When touched the leaves and buds feel wet. It leaves my gloves a sticky mess moving them to get at fan leaves.
Those samsung diodes are the awesome man! Your plants look great!
Thank you for that! I’m still deciding on if I like this light or not. My old school blurple lights have Far Red diodes, UV, and Infrared diodes. I really wish ViparsSpectra had added far red and UV diodes. That and two hundred watts more lighting overall would make this light perfect. And by that I mean peerless for a 3 x 3 light. The spectrum is different from any other light I’ve looked at. I’ll post a picture in a second…
Nice job dude… Looking great… the setup is interesting too ![]()
It’s a wonderful day 45 here at casa 4theEffects. Not a bunch to report. Removed fan leaves here and there that were touching the tent. I’ve been using Advanced Nutrients Ph Perfect A and B for flowering. When I finally decided to check the ph because my plant has leaf tip burn guess what it was? Five. Frickin’ five! It’s been five this whole time I’m guessing. No wonder she’s got burnt leaf tips. I do not recommend this product. All I’m adding extra is Advanced Nutrients Bud Candy and SuperThrive. It’s supposed to keep the ph in a usable range for a week with no drift. It didn’t even do that immediately. She’s clawing a tiny bit this evening on a few leaves from too much nitrogen so tomorrow will be a flush day. I’m getting more and more excited for the monster crop grow I’m going to do directly after chop day. Then I’ll be taking clones when she’s reversed to make seeds and female pollen. Then the 41 cola grow will be my next, THEN I’ll be running two Cap Junkies.
Thanks! Here’s a picture of something I’ve done with my setup I have yet to see anyone else do…
I keep the ballast for my light outside my tent hanging about a foot suspended from the walls and my tent. I use the exhaust air duct to cool my ballast. It’s room temp to the touch.
Great thinking keeping it out of the tent! ![]()
