UK Petitions to Legalise Cannabis

Hi everybody - Cannabis possession and growing is still illegal in the UK with jail terms of up to 14 years! I and I hope all UK cannabis lovers would like to change that.
There have been a few attempts in the past to get legalisation discussed in Parliament, all have been unsuccessful due to our namby-pamby nanny MP’s; the last two attempts were cut short and dismissed due to the General Election without getting to the debate stage, even though over 200,00 people had signed the on-line petition.
We now have another chance as a newish petition has been started - this will run through until May 2025 and needs 10,000 signatories to get a response from the Government in Parliament and 100,000 to trigger an actual debate - unless this is debated, NOTHING wil change.

If you are resident in the UK, please consider visiting the link below - (it is too the official Parliament petition site) or Search on-line for Cannabis Pettions and sign-up - the more pressure we put on our MP’s of whatever party, the more likely we are to see change.

Happy Growing everyone - Stay OG and OverGrow the world with LOVE :uk: :v:

It maybe selfish but I don’t want it legalised. In USA it was just a govt tax grab, overpriced weed and everyone and their auntie setting up dispensary bunk weed in shiny tins for the unfortunate or gullible stoner. Cannabis became fashionable.
If anything I think the Spanish sociodad model with private clubs is more favourable.
Look what Thailand’s become. Keep it illegal.

Decriminalization is the way to go imo not legalization… just quit arresting people and ruining their lives. Let responsible adults put whatever they want in their bodies. Similar to alcohol if you’re driving impaired then have to deal with the consequences

Already cannabis use is being used as a cash cow. The driving impairment limit in the UK has been set at such a low threshold that most regular users would fail a roadside swipe test even if they had not consumed within the previous 24 hours.

This kills 2 birds for the govt, removing a vehicle from the road which helps them meet their greenwash policy and also generates income in fines. You could argue a 3rd benefit is to keep stoned drivers off the roads but this would ignore studies actually showing stoned drivers less likely to have accidents, don’t have references but there are at least a couple of published papers concluding this.

Are you from the UK? I’m just a guy in the deep South USA but have visited England with a friend years ago cool place. No offense to those Britain but you guys have a big issue with cocaine spice and obviously alcohol so not sure why the government is so worried about cannabis, esp in 2025. My comment on impaired driving related to cannabis was ab those mixing it with a night of drinking which is dangerous as hell

Cannabis has always been a cash cow but before legalization, the only people that did it were those who either deeply cared about the plant or folks willing to risk their freedom to make some money.

Personal i think decriminalizing is closest to my preferred level of legality but ill take any system where folks dont end up in jail over a plant.

Legalization in my area essentially ended most police searches. Prior to legalization, if you didnt look right or talk right, you were almost guaranteed to get searched during any police encounter. Even if you didnt have and weed, theyd just say they smelled it so they could violate you.

Decriminalization seems to be the most beneficial. Once legal the grubby corporate mosters get a hold of things it goes to hell. I’m all for legislation that means less or no prison for cannabis “offenders”.
I hope the situation changes in Britain. :v:

Yep from UK. Im old enough to remember people getting 3 years in jail for an eighth. As you say these Islands have enough to deal with, with cocaine, spice and alcohol. I do not think legalised cannabis is going to benifit this country or its people at all.

Medical cannabis is available and magically if you have a mediscript it somehow makes you immune from prosecution for driving stoned. Therefore the mediweed system can already be considered flawed, exploitable and biased.

Drug swipe testing is so prevelant now I personally sold my car and use a bicycle as I can ride around stoned as I like. The police use the “I can smell cannabis” in order to force swab tests on people whereas sobriety tests of old are more appropriate. I dont want to see weed legal here as we already have enough problems and our govt needs defunding not its cofers bolstered.

Wow man that’s intense…over here where I’m at they def bust peoples balls ab cannabis but even we have a medical marijuana program starting up. I’m in a college town and plenty of stoners around but would never drive around smoking. I had no idea about the UK driving situation they really are pretty hardcore sounding. It was 2002 when I visited and smoked a few lovely joints with my local friend and his buddies…the old tobacco cannabis mixture that you guys seem to enjoy. Not sure if you run outdoors but online have seen really great growers producing amazing stuff in that tricky humid environment

Hi @Headies12green - I am from the UK and yes we have a problem with cocaine and spice - both have become relatively cheap and easy to get hold of in the big cities, introducing legislation to decriminalise cannabis allowing people to grow their own, may have in the long run, an impact on this, not having to find a drugs pedlar who may try to push you something other than cannabis, slowing down county lines gangs etc.
As to drink/drug driving, why would this change? I believe that if you drink/drug and drive, you should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, as an ex Lorry driver instructor doing research, I found that OSA’s ( obstructive sleep apnoea) caused more road deaths with large vehicles than drink or drugs - again if people took responsibility for what they consume and how much sleep they get, our roads would be safer.
I feel that I should be allowed to grow my own cannabis, for my own medical and recreational consumption -
Have a great day   :uk: :v:

If it wasnt for ballot initiative, my state would still be illegal. Our Gov and legislature are none to thrilled about it.

Unlike other countries, the UK has specialized clinics that offer controlled and safe treatments for various conditions, including chronic pain, ADHD, and other health issues.

Personally, I have used medical cannabis as part of my anxiety treatment and have noticed real improvements. If you want to learn more about the legal options available right now, you can check out these cannabis reviews of the clinic I went to.

This is true across the board. Drinking slows your reaction time.

But being exhausted is worse.

Drunk people react too late. Sleeping people don’t react at all.

Hey @Esrgood4u where do you stand on all this?

I shall resurrect this thread and all the others too!

We do have a very few legal routes to get cannabis through clinics in the UK, however:

Feb 12, 2024Releaf Pay As You Go. The price of medical cannabis flowers for Pay As You Go patients start from £9.99 per gram. Additional costs: Follow-up medical cannabis consultations cost £69.99; Repeat prescriptions cost £19.99; The price for medication postage is £4.99;
This makes it a very costly alternative when I get free prescriptions (over 60) and the government think that drugging me to a zombie state with opiods and anxiety pills make for a better outcome - and I would like to have a bowl just for fun now and again - lol
Thanks for the info   :v:

Just retired (ill-health) from being a trainer for lorry drivers taking CPC qualifications (a requirement for anyone driving a vehicle over 7.5T in the UK and across the EU), OSA’s was one of the topics that really blew many of them away, as they are 50%+ more likely to be effected than the average Joe(Anne).

The problem was / is, many then resort to uppers and/or cocaine to keep alert - huge problem over here (14 drivers sacked in a 2 week period from one of our depots for cocaine).

I enjoy an alcoholic drink or two and make sure I do not have to drive, why should I not be allowed to have a bowl or two of something that I have grown - with the same rules applying - knowing that it is pure and not cut with rat shit or anything else.
Thanks for bringing this thread back to life @Foreigner   :v:

Signed it but it’s pointless you know I’ve signed more of these than I can count they profit from it as it stands those tied to government being growing for medical long as it is for export since 2011 it’s ok for them but not for you ain’t gonna change anytime soon I’m afraid hope I’m wrong bud but I can’t see it anytime soon without big changes in government

Sorry, but petitions will not change anything, it’s just busywork for MPs and administrators.

If you want weed legalised or decriminalised, vote Green or Lib Dem. Both parties have legal weed as policies. That’s it. The only route to change.

Otherwise if you keep voting Tory, Labour, Reform, etc. it will just be the usual corrupt corporate establishment making lots of money from medicinal cannabis growing under licence. And the criminal gangs will still be coining it growing in abandoned buildings with dangerous electrics, spraying the weed with god knows what then selling the shit at ridiculous prices.

I feel if they get in power they would just go back on there word just like every party does sadly I can’t see it legalised for recreational over here anytime soon it’s a double edged sword anyway sure id like to not worry about the door going in but at the same time it just means a bunch of people who have no business being involved with cannabis are gonna get involved I don’t like this part of it myself
