you will need
- 30ml alcohol (70% acceptable, 91% preferred)
- heap of oxiclean
- plastic bag
- microwave
- water kettle
- touch of courage
the process
- add shit to bag
- set microwave for 45s, turn on
- watch constantly. as soon as the bag inflates, turn it off. if it doesnt inflate in 45s, use 15s increments
- shake well
- rinse with hot water
the why
- heating the alcohol dramatically improves the solubility of the resin
- the oxiclean acts as a detergent preventing the grim from dissolving off the surfaces and rebonding on new surfaces, once its off its off. it also acts as a light abrasive since it doesnt fully dissolve
the âis this safeâ question
- ya dude, its 30ml of alcohol, youre not going to build sufficient alcohol vapor to cause an explosion

Have you tried soda ash / soda crystals (sodium carbonate) instead of Oxiclean? Not that I have but I believe itâll work well too. I use it to âdeep cleanâ a lot of other stuff. And it doesnât have any other crap in it, like there is in Oxi⌠CuriousâŚ
i havnt but i suspect it would work fine. really the oxiclean isnt doing the âcleaningâ its more acting as a mild abrasive and to keep the resin from re-adhearing. i have tried pbw (brewers cleaner). it works better than the oxiclean if only because its unscented. i dont like the fresh smell of oxiclean but my wife does and she does our purchasing. oxiclean is a mild base cleaner but i doubt that ph shift is doing much in this context
I just stick to Epsom salt for the abrasive, and isopropyl alcohol. Either 70 or 91% is fine. And then use cold water to rinse. Cold keeps the resin from âmeltingâ and sticking to other shit.
It seems the cheapest and most natural way Iâve found

Yep, I like to add citric acid as well.
I put my pipes in a Mason jar of iso and salt
But I always wonder about the fuming and additions to the glass, so I get my face real close to the microwave door while Iâm watching for boil.

Big chunky pickling salt works best out of the salts.
