Used to grow TREES?

Thread for BIG outdoor plants. Dug up some pics from 2021. I started these plants in March. Final pots were 400gal. Nowadays I start my seeds in June because growing 5-10lb plants is a lot of work, and I don’t grow to make a profit anymore. I miss it though! The outdoor plants were Banana OG seedlings, and a Venom OG clone from Darkheart Nursery. In the greenhouse I ran some seeds I made several years earlier (BB Muffins x GG#4, and Sour Tangie x GG #4). I was just doing some pollen chucking on select branches to make seed stock, I’m no breeder but I’ve dabbled. If you have some pics of big plants, lets see em!

I was curious about the training you put into those ‘wonderfully manicured mounds’.
Judging by the number of bud sites I’m seeing on those plants you might be understating your per plant haul…

Excellent work!

For training, I topped them early somewhere around the 5th-6th internode. 2 rounds of bending branches out horizontally through a cage once the branches are long enough. Then let them fill in. Genetics play a big role in what their structure will end up like ofc. Using wide pots and full sun exposure helps promote lateral growth + lots of bud sites. They don’t typically grow too much wider than their roots without extensive training.

Thanks! That thing is massive for the size pot it’s in, looks like she is setting up nice too.

How would you rate the quality on buds from plants this big? is there an effect? Mid/top shelf ratio on the end product? Ive grown some big plants but never even close to this lol. 60 gallon is as big as ive ever attempted in the city. I couldnt imagine the hard work or trim jail lol, props.

Malawi gold there in the back got like 16’ maybe taller

This wasn’t recent but I’ll share. So this was a plant that popped up on its own during spring. It was from a breeding project during the winter time. If I remember correctly the strain was Nightmare OG x unknown. I ended up letting her grow and trained her through 2 cages.

I think she finished up a 10ft wide and 10+ ft tall.

As long as you keep them healthy, the quality can be just as good/better than a small plant. Not sure where the idea that big plants aren’t as high of quality came from. Might be because it’s much more difficult to keep a plant thriving long enough to get huge and all the way through flower compared to quick flipping small plants.

Cool looking plants there with the height and all trimmed up.
