Vacation Spots

Good day all:

Mrs Foreigner has a big birthday this year and we’re trying to find somewhere nice to go.

Originally it was supposed to be Barbados because she has roots there but I don’t think that’s going to happen.

We don’t usually do all inclusives but that’s what we’re looking for this time. But that’s not totally necessary either. I will make meals if it’s somewhere really spectacular.

We’ve already examined the usual suspects and nothing is really standing out to us.

Where do you like to go? Any place that sticks in your memory? Any particular resort that was above and beyond?

Somewhere weed friendly would be nice but not absolutely necessary.

Anywhere we haven’t been before will get special attention.

If you don’t want to bait out your favourite secret spot I totally get that too.

Forward fellow travellers!

I loved staying in Maui. It was great, we did a ton of investigating and found neat stuff to do, hikes. Caves swimming. Black sand beaches. Secret spots…or lesser known. We had a blast. And they have some good weed available from locals.

Hawaii is always near the top of my list. Me and MsCal went to Mexico a few years ago for an all inclusive (our first time)… it was so relaxing, but we only left the resort once…. :joy:

Really depends on what you’re looking to do when you get there I guess.

Hiking? Beach? Poolside bar? Touristy stuff?

We are open to any and all possibilities but a bar is very low on the list.

Never been to Hawaii. I’m really looking everywhere from Costa Rica to Portugal to Canary Islands to Réunion to whatever.

Hiking is good, nice beach is good, mingling with locals is good, cenotes are good, historically interesting is good, ruins are good, surfing is a big plus so Hawaii definitely has that.

If you’ve never been Hawaii is a must if you can make it happen. I think this might be peak tourist season though, crowds and pricing will reflect.

There is also Indonesia , has all this for a lot less. But I think the drug laws there are harsh.

Think about it like a car purchase & start with a budget… because some places are reeeeeeeally expensive. Like Japan. I have no yen :joy:

Use goo-gle street view to inspect random places :mag: There is/was a site called geoguessr which drops the viewer off in random places with the street view & your guess accuracy is measured in distance… fun stuff  and waaay cheaper

Another option (if you’re a member) is to start with some place like Costco Travel. Then pick their sale locations or just start searching and find your vacation on the cheap!

I don’t want to say “money is no object,” because that’s not true but the budget can be made to fit anything within reason. It’s a special occasion trip not just a little fun in the sun.

And you’re right, google maps is a very useful tool. I sometimes visit places I’ve been via google and just shake my head at how they’ve changed.

I’ve been informed that “I don’t want to fly 14 hours each way for a weeklong trip,” so too far is out I guess.

That looks really neat I’ve never even heard of it.

I neglected to mention this will be in December and we want heat.

@Foreigner

IF your in Canada, maybe check out.

" Saint Pierre and Miquelon "

This would be something remarkable.

Yeah, Dec would be some cold surfing even with a full body suit :slightly_smiling_face:

Maybe next time… it has a really cool history, and pretty good east coast surfing, checking off a few boxes.

Watched a guy catch a four foot shark drinking just fine out of cans

It strikes me as a tiny island with wide open spaces which I find very appealing and abandoned fishing villages sound really cool, but not in December :joy:

I noticed that yeah. Seems like a very interesting place and I’ll definitely keep it in mind for another time.

Yeah that outer banks show brought attention to the Hatteras area, but if you drive down there and get past nags head, you’ll notice after a certain point, there are zero fast food restaraunts, and I think that kinda says a little something.

Side note, most of that show is filmed in Charleston SC lol
