Vietnamese Hoa Bac

Going down the Sativa trail. Had 3 Vietnamese Hoa Bac females, two had the large asian xmas tree structure and one was extremely compact and hence selected for indoor cultivation. Got clones. Seeds were sourced from OSBA (Old school breeders association) closely conected with reeferman. I have many regular seeds (30+) and at some point will sift for a desirable male. Named the winner MAC-V-SOG (designation for the individual specimen). I might sift through some cambodian seeds for the male to work out a cultivar named MAC-V-SOG. will periodically post with updates.

Reeferman claims it is a partially stabilized pure Vietnamese sativa. The dude reeferman got the genetics from said it was the best vietnam had to offer. Dont know if they claimed it was landrace specifically. I find it strange how dark the green is in the foliage and how they max out at 9 fingers a fan. But most of my specimens want to get crazy branchy and tall so its definently got strong sativa dominant genetics regardless. The dark green foliage and 9 finger fans make me suspect it was hybridized at some point and backcrossed into the original line, but who knows.

I have never thought about calling the leaves on a fan fingers… I kind of like that terminology!

Thank you. Been growing for 18 years. First time going online to log stuff. I like the sativas so ill keep posting. Either gunna keep her pure if i can find a nice male or go into cambodians for a father. Usually you Wana do these 1-2 week veg and then go 11/13. Ive had these females for almost 2 months in veg to see what they do. The big branchy ones i topped twice and they are still out of control… that compact one i havent even pinched once. The keeper for sure

What a badass name for a cut. Up there with Bright light.

I guess i lied, thats not a cut, that is the mother, but yes i have clones. (After reading your message the thought crossed my mind to try to flip her back into veg as that is best practice, but ive never experienced genetic drift and know of people that have propogated a cut by clone for 20 years without problems. Plus… a sativa without that tap root will make her more manageable). It is best practice if possible to keep the seed plant (with tap root) as a mother as long as possible, should have thought of that.

Indeed, i feel compelled to find a cambodian male for her.

I’m a fan of landraces/oldschool stuff. Especially anything Vietnamese which i don’t have.
