Virus or Variagation?

I just germinated some seeds from a pack that was perfectly fine before (germinated a few plants from it a couple of months ago that were just normal) and the leaves look off, my first thought was thrip or spider mite damage because it looks just like it from afar, but taking a closer look, it’s obvious that there are no bugs and the cells aren’t damaged from the outside or sucked dry, just off color…
I’m really worried that it might be a virus, in fact I was already debating just tossing it out, but I figured I’d ask on here first.
There are a few seeds left, so it wouldn’t be a huge loss to toss em, but it would suck nonetheless.
also, does anyone have good resource on virus ID? this got me a little paranoid…

That plant looks normal in the photos friend. Def don’t see variegation and much too young and difficult to say it has a virus by eyeballing. Do you have a magnifying glass to check for pest? I don’t see any pest sign personally and those leaf crinkles are normal for a young plant a lot of times.

Thanks for the reply! I checked it with one of those bud microscopes and no bugs are visible anywhere, no tissue damage and no other plants seem to be affected.
I’m less worried bout the crinkles and more about the yellow (almost mosaic looking) spots.

But as far as I know with good hygiene and leaving some space between plants, even if it is something like a virus it shouldn’t spread for now… I’ll give 'em a repot and toss 'em in the corner.

I think juat relax and watch.

Looks like the medium is super wet. So probably let it dry out well…otherwise, its just a baby, they grow weird and in their own special way.

There are a few things that can cause what you are seeing. One common thing is just minor pH changes, young and small plants are pretty susceptible to little changes and can get some twirled leaves like you are seeing.
As others said, she should be fine. They usually grow out of it. If she is still popping new growth like that in 2 weeks, then maybe cause for concern.
On another note, where can we nominate people for best user name, because yours is maybe the most true and best I have seen!

It’s very lightly variegated, i don’t even note “VAR” in my plant’s tags at this level.
Maybe later you will have some funks in the leave’s shapes at hormonal maturity but it’s not even sure ^^

Blades look clean, serrations too … just enjoy buddy ^^

Thanks for the calming, helpful and friendly replies y’all! @anon57695954 @ClandestinLEE @BigF @Fuel
I’ll be away for a little more than 2 weeks, thanks to y’all without worries about these little guys. A friend will be watching the crib, so I’ll see how they are when I’m back and update the thread.
btw these are some Sensi ““landrace”” Hindu Kush seeds.
Probably far from landrace, but nice plants nonetheless.
Hoping for a male this time around 8===D

Hey guys and gals, I’m back! Hope you didn’t miss me too much :stuck_out_tongue:
The little ones are looking good and getting a repot today.
One still has some curly & strange leaves that concern me a little… (they were low on nutes for a bit, so that’s why they’re a little yellow)

She need more N, less K, and longer dry cycles.
Still variegated ^^ You can’t change anything about it, chill and observe how she express her weirdness.

I wouldn’t worry about either of those leaves unless I saw an entire branch of leaves doing the same thing. Still looks fine for now :+1:

Awesome, thanks again for the advice!

I love weird growing plants, this one just had me a little paranoid lol
Got one throwing 3 leaves (and branches) per node rn, real curious to see how that one turns out.

@Fuel Why less K and how did you see that with the dry cycles? :open_mouth:
