Will do. I used to stay in La Misión (K-44) a lot to play tennis when I lived in Sandy Eggo. Ain’t cheap there now from the looks of it though. I will be likely be heading a lot farther south toward El Rosario.
Well, still waiting on Mexico to legalize. Not much news there.
Meanwhile Arizona, South Dakota, Montana and New Jersey all legalized rec weed this week.
Western Hemisphere gaining anyway…unfortunately not my jurisdiction!
Well, Mexico is slowly grinding away on marihuana legalization. The adult use marihuana legalization bill was brought to a vote on the Mexican Senate floor late in November, where it was debated and approved in general terms with 82 votes in favor, seven abstentions and 18 against. So the bill was passed. It now goes to the lower house and then to el presidente to sign into law. After the law is approved, a cannabis agency must be established and secondary rules written before any marihuana sales can take place or home grows planted.
Mexico will become the third nation to legalize marijuana at the federal level, after Uraguay and Canada.
Hi @PanchoVilla I was just reading through your thread, my family and I are thinking of moving to Mexico next year do you know of any news on the legalisation front.
You have any links on this mate? Can’t seem to find clear information on it. I’m guessing it’s still in limbo
Yes, unfortunately the Mexican legislature have (again) failed to get the bills through and are still bickering over the details. Hence there is not much news on this lately. They have gone past the time limit that the Supreme Court gave them to come up with federal legalized weed laws. So it remains in limbo, like most things do in Mexico. Sadly. The devil is in the details, and they are debating the licensing, taxes, who will oversee the ramp up process and growing and sales of weed, possession limits, plant grow limits, etc. El Presidente de Mexico said he would sign the bill into law, if and when it gets through congress there.
As it stands now, proposed bills thrown back and forth have changed and have more recently boiled down to your typical US state laws with a lower age limit: adults 18 and older would be allowed to purchase and possess up to 28 grams (one ounce) of marijuana at any time and have that much on their person, and cultivate up to six plants for personal use. This is one update from May, 2021 from a weed site online. Which explains what has (and has not) happened in Mexico on legalizing weed at the federal level.
Thanks for the update @PanchoVilla, nothing moves fast or even moves sometimes in Latin America so I’m not expecting a result anytime soon by the sounds of it. I am pretty used to it by now. Mañana mañana…
As the saying in Mexico goes… “Manana!” (literally in this case it means ‘tomorrow’, but figuratively it means we will get to it tomorrow… as in not now, not today, or maybe not even tomorrow, or ever)
Any fuether news nowadays on this topic?
