Watering issues or nute toxicity?

Currently running 3 small plants in equal parts coco, vermicompost and perlite.

They were doing fine up until a few days ago where the leaves were a bit lighter shade of green. So I hit them up with some organic fertilizer and watered them. The paleness wore off within a few days and the color darkened.

Then, for the next 2 days, I gave them each 3 sprays of water mixed with quarter tea spoon Epsom salt after lights on. That’s when I noticed the 3 plants going a bit limp. I assumed it was because of the sprayed water on the leaves weighing them down.

Two of them recovered the next day. But this particular one is extra green and extra droopy. I feared it might be under watered, so I soaked the the bottom of the pot in a bit of plain water to check if the pot would drink anything after the finger in soil test. It didn’t drink much, at least not any discernable amount.

Right now, I’m unsure what’s happening with the one plant. Does over fertilizing with nitrogen or magnesium lead to droopy leaves or is this because of watering issues? How do I have this plant bounce back? I’m afraid I might overdo and kill it in the process of diagnosing as I’ve already helicoptered the plant more than I’d like to.

Experienced growers, what do you see?

Let it dry out until the pot is light. Looks overwatered to me.

I would agree with the over watering. Give them a good dry back and see if they perk up.

Let the soil completely dry out. If the plant doesn’t perk up after the dry back, most likely the roots were damaged> Root rot.

Thanks everyone. I’ll wait for a couple of days and see how she responds.

@Farmers_Hat is there any way to save her if the roots are indeed showing signs of rotting?

From my experience, the only thing that you can do is wait and see if it will recover from root damage. Stop watering and allow some healthy roots to develop.

Worst case scenario, snip and propagate the whole plant.

Are they autos or photos?

They’re photos. I believe this is Dutch Passion Blueberry, always been a problem child. A finicky strain to grow for me.

Good thing its a photo strain. I would wait at least 2 weeks before making the final call to snip and propagate the plant.

If the plant looks worse as time goes by, then seriously consider propagating it.

There are some products I know work in water and coco for root rot and help save them but I’m unsure if same in soil

Okay thanks. How do I propagate the plant? Snip the roots and treat it like a new clone?

Cut just above the base, and treat it like a clone. Use whatever medium your familiar with… plugs, clonex, etc.

Alright cheers. Just noticed that the tips of the two lowest, biggest leaves are burnt and are progressively drying to a crisp. I assume this symptom is in line with over watering?

Maybe over fertilizing.

Not to pile on, but yeah, over watered. She’s telling you what’s wrong. It’s your job to figure out what she’s telling you. That is the secret to growing. But OG is here to help you read the plant. Best wishes going forward.

Underwatered, the plant flops of course.
Overwatered, it does a similar thing, but the leaf presentation is quite different. When underwatered, their leaves simply droop, limp. Overwatered, the leaves curl down, but are usually fairly stiff. Its like holding your arms straigth out and then your arm goes limp vs holding your arms straight out and flexing every muscle in your arms as hard as you can.
In this case there is another possibiity. If the media is too salty, the plant can not uptake water, and the result is a plant that flops similar to an underwatered plant, even though the media has plenty of water. You had just added Epsom Salts before the prpblem started. In case that is the cause, I would rinse the media with nutrient solution (not RO or tap water) thoroughly, like 2x to 3x the water capacity of the media.

Makes sense. I repotted the plant into lesser amended soil a couple of hours ago. I’ll wait for a couple of days and see how she responds.
