I went to the most beautiful garden today. It was really my kind of garden, flowers mostly and a couple huge shade gardens, one was all ferns another was all begonias, fuschias, bromeliads and other exciting shade plants. I took some pics but the glare was rough at the time of day I was there…
First, they had amaranth growing aka love lies bleeding
Planted a few things. Supposed to have a week of rain starting tmw. Where the shade bed starts graduating to a sunnier planter, it just sort of ends, so I extended the black mulch to that point. Pretty much where the new raspberry bush is. Planted a couple begonias in white. Also direct sowed a few moonflower seeds where the shade starts ending and the raspberry bush begins. It said to soak and nick the seeds. I couldn’t nick those suckers to save my life. I figure if a week of rain won’t sprout them as is, so be it.
Damn wisteria coming to life. This thing is probably 8 years old. Never given me flowers yet. More finicky than gardenias even though it’s considered an invasive weed in some parts of the world.
Got 3 bare root geraniums by mistake in a plant order last year only one came up. First flower ever. Obviously I’m tickled cuz it turned out to be pink
Blue dianthus sprout in the greenhouse disappeared as fast as it came. After the rain, I think I’ll just stick the flat outside. May be to hot in there as the dichondra and sibella carmine has tons of sprouts already.
Looking Fresh Meesh! So cool to see things growing already. We’re having about a 5 day stretch of upper 60’s so I’m going crazy getting some projects done before it starts growing like a jungle and is too hot to be outside. It sure makes me want to plant.
@cannabissequoia Right?? That garden I visited the other day was OFF THE CHAIN! Practically every flower that I want to grow all blooming for them already! There is something to be said about fully established gardens! Can’t wait for mine to be like 7 years in and fucking fabulous! Although, they aren’t a botanical garden. I mean they swap out annual plants, obviously from the state of the fresh pansies and petunias etc…, but their perennial gardens were truly awesome as well. All the places there was either too much of a glare or too much shade to photograph. lol I was a little too preoccupied to waste time taking pics anyway. Flower heaven. Our weather is damn near perfect, yes, you are right, but I would prefer just a tad colder, even a month freeze, just so I could grow a few of my favorite flowers. One of these days, I’ll buy a mini fridge for the garage so I can force bulbs. lol Our weather is so perfect that I can’t get anything to establish in the shade. Hmm… maybe it’s the gardener.
Nah @GMan he’s more inland, closer to Sacramento (much hotter/colder and drier) .
So there were like a hundred or so of these seedlings coming up in the long planter by where the dahlias are sleeping. I kept looking at them and looking at them. I knew they weren’t a weed, cuz they looked really familiar. Kept thinking that it was some flower volunteers or some seeds I scattered in there that I forgot about. It wouldn’t be unheard of, I am a pot smoker, although I am pretty anal about watching for life when I sow seeds. Today, the light finally came on! Tomatoes! Like 100 tomato plants! Pulled up one clump and they were literally attached from a wayward cherry tomato skin as if they sprouted inside a tomato. Took me a good 45 mins to pick every tomato volunteer out of the planter. Sheesh! I knew I recognized that first set of true leaves. lol
It’s no coincidence that those sprouts are in that planter. It is right next to where the arched trellis was that had my jungle of tomatoes growing on it last year. So probably not birds, but birds did plant my second apple tree that I just had removed and they tried to start another macadamia nut tree in the front yard before. lol
Pouring rain today! Rain is unusual here and people honestly get crazy. Suddenly forget how to drive. Stupid maniacs on the road tailgating, weaving in and out of traffic. Just dumbasses. Even when I was young and drove faster, I always slowed down and was much more cautious in the rain. The man and I went to Sams Club and I had never seen it that busy, not even at xmas. Paranoid ignorant people hoarding water. Every cart stacked to the hilt. We used the restroom and split. People so worried about the flu and the news fear mongering giving stupid facts without context or comparison. It has me completely irritated. It is just the fucking flu people! Same as any flu. Can cause already sick folks and old people to get pneumonia like every other flu. Only the transmission rate is different. Same precautions as always. Jeez. You would think being in HUGE crowds of people is worse than staying home and drinking from the tap as they swarm costco and sam’s club. I’m so frustrated. Ignorance and lack of critical thinking skills really gets my goat. Anyway, shit day to be out and about in LA. Onslaught of sirens here today too. Like every 20 minutes. No exaggeration. I’m not leaving the house again today. That’s it!!!
That sounds like me when i get near that crap. The last place I lived had a fire station a block and half away. People seem to always have emergencies at around 5:30am… every morning of the year I think.
And, I lived about 10 blocks from the main high school in town. So all of the rich oil kids are driving new tricked out pick up trucks with the loudest mufflers that money can buy. And their was a wide one way street one house away that led to the high school… drag racing every day… loud mufflers everywhere because that’s all there is to do there…man. My blood pressure is going up just thinking about it.
Hey I noticed my emoticons don’t show up when I click it anymore. Ever since the upgrade. I thought LJ didn’t want leaders to use them or something… heh. I’ll ask him.
I should be around! Either day is fine except it’s probably gonna be raining still. Not sure if you want to drive 30 miles each way in that crap.
There are all kinds of seeds in the bag he left. Can’t remember what types of peppers, I can check in a bit. I have some bell pepper seeds if you need some.
I have a pot of comfrey I can send with you too. It’s coming back nicely!
My new rototiller should be delivered tomorrow. It’s perfect timing. After all this rain, it will be easy breezy to till the patch.
I’m thinking all this rain coming off the ocean is just showering my plants with magical sea minerals and that’s why they look so happy, like they have never been watered before and had their first drink after crossing the desert.
What did you get? I picked this one up a few years ago and it has been great. The cord takes a little getting used to, but for a smaller bed it really “chews in”. (I paid a lot less for it when I got it, though)
