FYI…Behind the marguerite daisies in pic above are the black eyed susan vines slowly but surely growing in
Your Monday forecast is about 21 degrees cooler than mine.
And Thursday? Another 5 or 6 hotter…!
Yes, I hate this place.
Our weather is perfection right now. 70’s is the best! I’m not looking forward to the 80’s of summer. I really believe it’s our sweet nighttime temps that are making my garden grow like crazy.
@Calyxander Have you noticed the one chink in the armor with promix for annuals? The ones I have in promix finish there cycle regardless of deadheading and die off, the ones I plant in regular soil mostly go perennial. Am I tripping or have you noticed this too? Asking cuz you are in a higher zone like me.
Were you using the Promix Peat Moss with perlite and myco? When outside I always used peat moss into the regular soil to help aerate it and hold moisture.
I grow with it for my weed, but mix in some Ocean Forest or compost and earth worm castings. Then I use the roots organics dry nutrients and lots of microbes. I need to buy new stuff I believe. It’s breaking down a good bit. It’ll all go into the outdoor garden somewhere, when I can afford to buy a few new bales.
Cool flowers again, as usual. I love those daisies and the glads. We are so dry here that it’s plain weird. 8% today, with 25 mph winds all day. It’s been around 80 on avg. every day. We already have fires going in the region, and one in our county out east in the plains.
It’s getting hard to keep enough water in some plants. We may get a good bit of rain this next week, I hope so. I have some tomato plants to get in the ground and weed.
Well, I have 2 different methods for my container plants. Perennials are always planted in organic soil with organic dry nutes and most annuals are in promix (I think bx) Whatever they had at Lowes and get nothing but liquid chemicals ie Miracle Grow. I can eek out a lot more flowers from the annuals that way. At least until they go dormant. The same annuals that act as perennials here, I have tried both ways. The second season in the organic soil is when the real boost in flower and plant performance begins as opposed to the promix and chemicals that seems only to improve flowers for one season. In quite a few instances this year, I have a crossover. Experimented with the same annual flowers in both mediums. The annuals in the soil have returned for another season aka acted as perennials and the ones in promix did not. They acted as true annuals
If I wasn’t such a jackass and remembered to turn my compost tumblers everyday, I would’ve been flush by now and I probably would grow mostly in compost, but alas, I am a dipshit and the compost is always in a halfway there state. lol
I use only ProMix BX or HP in containers, never use soil of any type in containers.
I grow mostly annuals (tender perennials) in my beds and containers
My beds are simply a mix of nice (local Everglades) topsoil and recycled ProMix from containers, I mix in a little dolomite lime as well.
The larger containers seem to produce longer lasting, more productive plants.
And the biggest plants are in my beds. Otherwise, I have not noticed any difference between straight ProMix and the topsoil and ProMix blend in my beds.
I do not keep any plants in containers or beds for more than a couple of years, I am always rotating and popping and growing new, fun plants.
I only feed all of my plants with dry, powdered fertilizer, like Jack’s Classic All Purpose 20-20-20.
Today’s pics
Crasapedia from seed last year. Finally flowered this year.
Comfrey out of hand. Gonna make a concoction this week from it
Nasturtiums volunteer
Cosmos all volunteers this year
Dahlia bud sighting
Alstromeria
Pretty stuff
Is the common name of these “76 Antenna Ball Plant”???
Right?! I love growing weird plants! These are cool as dried flowers too and generally go in a flower arrangement and not by themselves. I dig them.
I found that my soil level dropped a giid 3-4 inches but it was pretty dense I just got done adding fall leaves that are finely chopped will start composting when I get enough green
How tall are your cannabis plants now out in. The pots or direct ground?
hah! and a lot more characters
About a foot maybe. all of them, except 3 seedlings.
If I’d were to guess mine I’d say 14-16” range there going like gang busters and new ones popping all over the back yard! There growing I. Straight sand, mushroom substrate , compost bins them fuckers are everywhere! I gave one a haircut with the lawnmower BTWl
Are they all hemp volunteers? I started my seeds later than usual.
Well my guess is that since they seeded my plants last year that 25% would be hemp probably if that’s how that works ! Lol with elevated CBD perhaps?
I haven’t delved into all that genetics stuff yet. Still learning how to grow the stuff. lol
