WHAB’s 1924 Brick Schoolhouse RDWC

Some tasty looking huge buds you got there @WhiteHotAfterburner , even with the few glitches, I am sure you will get that room fine tuned for the next run

Yes, they were most lovely, thank you!

And, yes, the changes I have made really changed things.

I don’t have the numbers but, just looking at them while growing, I ‘think’ this is my best grow - size wise - to date.

Breaking up the buds at hand releases a Skunky aroma…what I have Vaped has been really wonderful. Very effective!

Next run will be better, thank you. That is a promise.

Thank you for your contribution to the discussion, @Mrgreenthumb! tup

Thinking back on it now - it may be that it was a miracle that I harvested anything at all.

What I was referring to as light bulb damage, heat damage…obvious, visible changes was very likely a dying plant. While I was trying to explain as relative to the physical relation to the bulb damaging them…which did happen…I did rotate the buds relationship to the bulb, the center of the space, about 180° from where they were as I picked them up from their unsupported sagging…and the damage looked to be on that 1/2 of the Cola that was previously facing the bulb.

Were they spending their days dying?

Man, is that even possible?

IF that is what happened - that’s WILD!

They spent nearly 100 days dying?

It doesn’t seem possible…

This is that one top I accidentally broke off…I haven’t touched it since I took the last pictures of it, I haven’t trimmed anything off or anything other than move it from the space to the slab.

This is both sides of it … with overhead LED, then with LED overhead and camera flash…

There is nothing wrong with this top and it smells wonderfully!

I’m gonna break some up and see how it volcano winky

This is the bottom left bud from the first 2 images…

Same shot with camera flash…

There’s nothing wrong with that bud…

First pass across the vape heating element went well.

Very effective.

A part of that bud under the microscope…

Then a consecutive zooming out shot (still not very good at it but, that is a hint of purple coming through)…

It’s just a little minor root damage, I’ve seen worse! The buds will be fine.

Hello friend!

Yours was an opinion on this matter I was hoping to read…thank you!

Along with your opinion, I also harkened back to @Gpaw’s anomalous black dot mention. I have not seen anything like that occurring again anywhere…I’ve been looking for it since the mention.

I do read. I do seriously consider. I do thank you!

Well, I think (know winky) what was causing the wonky A/C functioning.

The Temps were getting very high, completely inexplicably high.

Ice build up. Just looking through the grill that covers the filter I thought it was mold. White and what looked like fuzzies through that grill.

I should have suspected ice when I couldn’t get the filter out the normal way. It lifts up very easily from the case. This wasn’t coming out easy at all. I tried everything (short of using a flame thrower winky).

I had to remove the back case to finally see that it was frozen to the assembly it rests in. It normally just lays there and is super easy to remove. I had to pry it out of its position in front of the coils by reaching in the case and gently lifting it away from those coils.

When I investigated the matter further I was presented with this…

That’s ice. That’s ALL ice! That’s a bit stunning. One would think this was a Deep Freezer! ROFLMAO

I’m quite surprised seeing this. It’s never happened before and I’ve had this unit for several years and used it for most of those several years. It heats and cools and works pretty well at both - typically.

I did notice yesterday that the space wasn’t putting very much moisture (water) in the external catch bucket.

I had been draining about 3 gallons a day out of it since Harvest, sometimes more. Right now there isn’t more than an inch or two in the catch bucket.

Well, I’m glad it happened now instead of in Flower…that would have been a YUGE problem, an additional problem on top of my self-caused problems, I didn’t need.

Now, I’m going to have to let that melt out and put her back in service.

I am going to start breaking the plants down and jarring/bagging them…starting with #4 Afhan Kush…I’m starting in the middle of the numbers (plants) because there are only 2 of them and I’m going to try and keep track of things. Not sure how I’m going to achieve that goal! winky

That is one big block of ice… why did it freeze up? Is there a problem with the unit? Maybe it is time for a new one

This changes things.

Referring back to brother @Oldjoints mention it looks like I’m not bagging and jarring today.

This is from the stalk closest to the root ball end…

This is a branch up the plant a little bit, nearer to the top…

Those numbers surprised me. I’ve already started cutting away the branches from the stalk.

Gonna go get my “Hangers”. I’m pretty sure where they are at in the original 1924 Schoolhouse Woodshed Storage building. We’ll see! winky

I am going to take a ‘tester’ bud first winky.

But, the samplings I have already taken are cutting into my productivity! rollitup

Yes, a tremendous block of ice.

I don’t entirely know the mechanics behind it freezing up like that. Not a clue.

As for being time for a new one…you may be right. But, IF she wants to keep running then I’m gonna let her.

I am going to have to keep a better eye on it.

It defrosted/melted very quickly.

I cleaned it out and put it back together…more on that below.

As mentioned above.

I cleaned it, while it was opened up…

Hitting it with Compressed Air worked well!

Worked well NOT including the unexpected splatter!

I’m going to wipe the walls down before the next run so it’s not a big deal.

Here is the Drain Pan I made for it. It’s working great!

There is only about 1/8 inch of water nearest the opening. It is all going to that opening. Opposite that is completely dry! woohoo

As mentioned above, I cleaned it out and put it back together and hefted it back on its perch.

BUT when I turned it back on the squirrel fan wasn’t spinning. I cycled it through all of its settings…it still wasn’t spinning. I even tried spinning it through its grill with a nail, it still wasn’t spinning. I cycled it through all of its settings again to make sure I didn’t miss something, it still wasn’t spinning.

I had to take it back off its perch, took it apart again, even more apart than I had already done.

I ran it when it was all apart. I left the wire harness connected to the front half because I needed the remote control to run it (the sensor is on the front), the on board control panel is unusable (not legible. digital characters are missing (quit)). That’s one of two of the only knocks I have against it.

I nudged the fan blades enough to free it up.

It was working but moderately squealing…just a little bit…while contemplating next moves (possible replacement winky …deeper repair…(exactly how long could I put up with it before I ‘really’ got tired of it) alternatives…etc) and it spit in my face!!! - and the noise went away!

ROFLMAO

I’ll have to investigate the causes of such an event. IF anyone knows I’d be keen to listen.

I am intaking air from within the room. The air intake hose for the A/C unit has been pointing down very near the bottom of the floor the entire time it’s been in use.

When your AC system is freezing up it is generally going to be caused by one of two things. The first is poor airflow and the second is low refrigerant pressure

Given those 2 possibilities, it is very likely poor airflow, it seems.

It also seems like I should have noticed things earlier…

I’m sure I mentioned it not getting below 64F but I can’t find it now.

A basic search didn’t find it, I don’t have time to look deeper for it…I have a pop-up Dr. appointment.

See ya’s on the flip side!

Make it a great day! rockon

2 criticism, if you don’t mind, @VIVOSUN…regarding your 13 Inch Air Circulator Fan, that is.

We had a power outage the other day.

I discovered upon entering the under-loft space that that fan did not “Auto-Restart”.

It would be great to have that capability. I would not have known it wasn’t running if I didn’t open that door…which does occasionally happen.

Does it also lose programming after a power out situation, @VIVOSUN? IF a person has theirs programmed, that is…I don’t have it programmed. BUT, I did notice that the oscillations needed to be manually restarted.

The other is - there is no way to change Temperature readings from Celsius to Fahrenheit.

It’s not a big deal for me, others opinions ‘will’ vary winky… just thought it was worth a mention in this “Airing of Grievances Session”!!! ROFLMAO

Otherwise, it is working great! tup Nice strong little fan…pushes a bunch of air!

Edit Add: This is a problem. I lost power again - very briefly, went off and came right back on (instantaneously) - fan and oscillations needed to be manually restarted. For what I have in mind it requires an auto-restart fan even if it doesn’t oscillate. Every piece of grow gear I use is auto-restart. Respectfully.

Menards sells a foaming cleaner for the coils. I believe it is called “A/C Safe”. Use this twice a year in my mini PTAC unit. She’ll ice up if there is any dust in the coils at all. I hit it with the spray, the scrub brush on the can a few times… Then hit the every living hell out of it with the air compressor. Fixes the issue every time. Since I began doing it twice a year, once at the beginning of the season, and once about midway through? I haven’t had an issue.

A/C Froze up again. I already thawed it out and restarted it.

It must be because it’s pulling in already conditioned air from the space…I saw the AC Infinity probe was giving a reading of 62F yesterday and that probe is near the ceiling.

I have decided to make a penetration through the wall for the air intake hose where the A/C sits now (I’ve already rotated it 90 degrees on its perch and put 2 blocks of wood under it) but I want to move the catch pan a few inches South first…it’s going to be a tight fit on that short wall that is already occupied by ventilation systems…A/C unit, its exhaust and exhaust fan and the catch pan stand.

I was hoping to have the space emptied of its occupants first.

Are you all making it a great night?
