I won’t deny having a little help at times would be nice. I really appreciate the sentiment!
Planning to do a job by ones self is the hardest part!
But, I’ve been riding solo for so long it’s not a big deal (although it is at times pain producing ) … mechanical advantage and gravity is my constant friend!
Yes, lunch is on the schedule! Let’s work out a time. When we previously discussed the dining facility we’d occasion I wasn’t aware of your dietary habits. I’ll find something more suitable to your palette!
The only limiting factor on my end is road conditions. I won’t be on the road in snowy or icy conditions. It only ends badly in my rear wheel drive vehicle. It’s just straight up unsafe. And overuse of ones sphincter muscles!
But, as an aside, I was out driving in the rain the other day and I wasn’t getting that weird water induced thermodynamic noise any more! So, there’s that! That thin crossover plate (I ‘think’ its job was/is to prevent the driveshaft from hitting the ground IF it ever came loose ) being in too close proximity to the exhaust tube turned out the be the culprit. It was so weird and so incredibly loud.
You, too , my friend!

Hahahaha. I hear that! I need awd, or 4wd where I live, or I wouldn’t make it up some of the hills in this crap.
Glad that noise stopped for you. Thinking of your driveshaft hitting the ground reminds me when a shackle busted on my f250 and the leaf spring ending up through the bed of it. Hahah that was fun.
Yes, my intent when I bought my cool-ass 1962 Willys Wagon was primarily as a second vehicle for Winter use - although using it more would also be agreeable to me! I’m going to try and get it back on the road this working season.
I had it running and ready to work on other aspects of it and the fuel pump failed. The one I need, from Willys parts dealers, was around $250+ (from memory), may have been $350. Before I moved here I had a guy at O’Reilly’s helping me find a direct replacement for around $70+ (from memory)…we were both going through their computer data base to compare physical attributes and function…we had it narrowed down. I didn’t have the fuel pump in hand at the time, it was in storage. That was the last step we needed to take. I will work on that.
But, besides that, the single piece windshield at that time was over $600!!! . Someone shot this one up before I bought it and before I knew those windshields cost that much. There is a fella selling them on Ebay for around $350 now
I would not hesitate hitting the road in that machine in any weather condition.
However, it was built before our Interstate Highway System was created/completed. It will need an overdrive for highway driving at speed . I had found one but they were $800, at the time…I have no idea what they’re asking for them now. I will get one, eventually.
I want to have her road ready soon. But, soon has happened to have spanned years at this point! .
Edit Add: funny you should mention shackles. I have one on the Willys that’s bad. I have a brand new set sitting in the Willys now. And, yeah, I’ve heard of cars losing their front u-joints and sort of catapulting the car ass over tea kettle. I have no personal knowledge of that happening, but I can understand how it could happen. It’s why driveshaft retainers were ever created and put into use.
friend,
WHAB
Just imagining that is terrifying. Belongs in cartoons. Lol. Guess there’s a reason they keep making rules and adding safety features to keep us “safe”. Must be a reason OSHA has such a negative feeling behind it. I, personally, and always thinking about safety before I do anything potentially dangerous. Even starting up my table saw. Guess that’s why I’ve still got all my digits.
Your Willy’s sounds awesome! My buddy is all about the old international scouts. He’s had a few, but his current one is a 63, and he’s been restoring all sorts of things, like the pneumatic wipers.
Hope you can get that baby road ready again this year!
Yes, I can picture it in my mind.
After thinking about it for a bit, I remember I had a friend that it happened to.
It did not flip him over but it did raise the back end off the road surface, he recalled to me.
He always had really nice Factory High-Performance vehicles. Oldsmobile 442’s, GTO’s…etc.
He had one of these…a Pontiac 2+2…I had never seen one before. I have never seen one since. His was black and truly beautiful and ran like a bat out of hell!!!
We used to run Angeles Crest Highway all the time. He told me he lost his driveshaft on that road.
It’s a wild road even in an intact vehicle!
He’s lucky it didn’t launch him off the side of that mountain road…he and his beautiful vehicle would have been done.
I, too, retain all of my digits. Even my thumbs as seen >>>
However, I did nearly lose a ring finger running (jogging, more like) through an partially dismantled Grumman G21…image below is me. My Texas Girlie took the picture (my personal photographer for many years ).
The Goose I ran through was stored on the outside of the hangar (the Bone Yard)…to my right in the image, to the left viewing the image.
I caught a ring on a piece of airframe and it pulled me to a dead stop.
I quit wearing rings that day.
The Goose over my left shoulder, in the right of the picture - Tail Number N11CS - is now a Dive Site (on the bottom of the ocean) off Catalina Island. RIP Ruth Gardner!
Here’s to retaining ones OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts!
Edit Add: RIP Ruth Gardener

I ‘think’ my stomach is settling down, I ‘think’…but, maybe not Wow!
I did not make it outside to test the nozzles.
I will try again tomorrow
Here’s to trying! ,
WHAB
I quit wearing watches for that same reason!
I did not make it outside today - but, my stomach is much better. My stomach was in really bad shape this morning…no action, just really painful. It forced me back to bed .
I think I probably caused the problem. I went a few days without eating a “meal”. I was busy . If I did eat anything, it was ‘A’ (1) PB&J sandwich or a couple of Mandarin Oranges. Since I only eat once a day, that is all I put in my stomach over those few days. Then I ate a big meal. My stomach hated me for doing that!
Neck and stomach in much better mode now!
Since I didn’t make it outside to test the nozzles I decided to perform the test in the bathtub.
I have 2 of these pumps. I use these matching pumps to push and pull water/nutrient solutions wherever that situation is needed.
When Cloning Machine II was out of use, I grabbed that pump in the cloning machine to empty the large reservoir when I took the system down. I used that pump because at that time I couldn’t find the second pump.
I have to change the fittings out to do one function or the other. The Female Threaded and Female Slip-Fit fitting seen in the below image to push water/nutes through Cloning Machine II is missing.
I’ve looked everywhere, a couple of times.
I know when I took it apart I knew it was special and I had to keep track of it.
I know I set it aside in an obvious place and to be mindful of its location for when I needed it again
I failed.
When I find it I’m going to go “Oh, that’s where I put it!”
It looks like I’m going to have to run to ‘town’ to get another one…one fitting holding things up.
In light of the fact that I can’t test the nozzles and looking at the cloning machine I was reminded I wanted to modify the Bulb Seal. By modify I mean to add a second Bulb Seal on the opposing surface, the underside of the cloning machine lid to where they’re both compressed against each other. Water/nutrients leaked past one section of the bulb seal the last time I ran it. It only leaked a little, I’d prefer it not leak at all.
I definitely need to get that done. I’m pretty sure I bought the bulb seal online but IF I can find some at the hardware store tomorrow I’ll buy some then.
I’m dead in the water, so to speak!
I tried, very hard…didn’t get it done!
Make it a great week!
I hear ya!
I like watches. I have had many over the years. Much of the time I wore one for work - I had to accurately time things, system tests (leak down tests), sealant applications…etc.
I have a really nice Citizens watch now…it’s a long story, but it was a replacement for the really nice one I bought my Father a long time ago that was returned to me when he passed away.
It’s a Citizen ECO-DRIVE GN-4W-S-12G Radio Controlled, Perpetual Chronograph.
It’s dusty. I leave it on the window sill behind a sheer curtain (out of direct Sun) to keep it charged. It will charge under candle-light. It has Sapphire crystal.
I’ve only worn the ‘new’ one less than a handful of times.
For me, Smart Phones have replaced their necessity.
Again, bonus points for retaining your (our) OEM parts and assemblies!

I had a nice citizen eco drive! It actually just fell off my wrist while paddling through the boundary waters in Canada. I was dumbfounded when that happened. It was a gift from my grandfather. But as redemption, only minutes later I saw a bald eagle snag a fish from the water about 10 foot to the side of my canoe.
The Seiko kinetic watch I had got caught on a fence gate I was sprinting through and nearly de skinned part of my wrist. Anyway. I was done after that. I had a pocket swatch for awhile. Just like this one actually.
Forgot to tell you. That 2 x 2 is amazing!
Oh man! That SUCKS!!!
Did you dive for it? Did you try? I know I would have instantly dove in without even thinking (even in Winter)! It would have been a auto-response .
Seeing a Eagle dine - cool as that may be - would be no consolation to me! .
We share many coincidental experiences, it’s turning out!
Once while on horseback, I caught a leather bracelet on a fence post…it pulled my arm down and across the points of the chain link. The sharp pointy bits. Sliced my arm up pretty good!
Your water escapades does sound very cool, right up until you and your watch parted ways!
Is your Grandfather going to replace it?
That pocket watch is sweet!
I have a 1880’s Seth Thomas pocket watch. It doesn’t work, the face is a mess - but, dang…I really like that watch! It’s in a Silver case. Coin Silver, IF I remember correctly. The case indicates what kind of Silver it is and I think I have it right.
I have a nephew that really likes watches. He’s getting all of mine when the time comes that I’ll no longer have a requirement!
And, yeah, they are awesome cars. That’s the only one I’ve ever seen. Really rare and special!
Good morning, my friend !,

You’ve inspired me to put my watch on my arm . I don’t remember the last time I wore it…

LOL, lost a waterproof camera off a jetski years back and did just that. Dove right in after it and could see it fluttering down but coudn’t reach it. Was also very dark. When I popped up I realized diving in and swimming down are more difficult when wearing a life jacket and sunglasses I did go back over there with my fishing camera which is on a 50 foot line but it was apparently deeper than 50 feet.
No, and no. I should have, but we were in some deep water, and it was COLD! We hadn’t Set up camp and weren’t even near where we were planning to camp. Still a couple portages away.
I wish I could go back and find that watch, but it’s been 24 years now. I doubt I could even find the spot it fell off.
Yeah, to retrieve a lost item is just an automatic response, spontaneously jump in .
I was on a float down one of Missouri’s amazing, highly regarded waterways (the Current River in this instance) and somehow, I don’t recall how, my custom prescription Oakley sunglasses went in the water. I spontaneously dove in and was lucky to catch them as they descended down like a feather…they were wafting back and forth, fluttering as you describe, like a feather in the air that slowed their descent.
I tried to have another pair made when that pair was about 10 years old and I couldn’t find another optician that would do the work.
Watching someone diving in with a life jacket on would have been worth whatever it cost to see it!
A fishing camera sounds like an interesting device. I’ve never seen one.
Sorry you lost your camera, brother!
,
WHAB
Lol, yeah, was the first time put with it after winning it at work. I think the sunglasses were the worst part. Just made it to tough to see clearly and I only got down a little ways before the life jacket did its job, lol. The fishing camera is cool. Its portable with a rechargeable battery and 50 ft cable.
I misunderstood.
When you said…
I thought “just fell off” as meaning it was a recent event, not it innocently fell off by itself. My bad!
Have you ever watched those “Magnet” fishermen? Not that you could find your Citizen after so much time but, they haul up some pretty incredible items.
,
WHAB
Picked up a 1000 lb magnet to try it out but have not taken it out yet.
That looks cool as hell!
I didn’t know anything like that existed. To win it as a prize is even better!
You can control it like a underwater drone, steer it around?
When I first went to work for Pemco Aeroplex in Alabama I won tickets to Talladega Superspeedway…the company had a box there. It was stinking awesome!
