WHAB’s 1924 Brick Schoolhouse RDWC

A hunter has a protective metal cover over the crystal. Press the stem and the cover pops open sort of thing.

I have a buddy that can quote from memory where the various jeweled bearings are… not me.

An interesting bit of Horology trivia I can give you is…
The best oil to use on a watch is synthetic motor oil.
Bar none, by a long shot.
It does not degrade like whale oil (in 40 years), it does not go acidic like mineral oils can. It is the best long term lubricant
See those depressions around the shaft ends in your picture? Those are oil cups.
You place the tiniest amount of oil in there and the meniscus holds it in place and lubricates the shaft for up to 40 years. They used to suggest doing a cleaning and oiling every 5 years or so on these sort of watches.

It hardly looks effeminate. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I’d sport that thing all day. I’d probably like it even more, since ladies usually means smaller. I’m not a huge fan of things weighing me down. And I’m sure your nephew would enjoy it greatly. It’s a pretty awesome timepiece. Keep it away from the whoreologists out there.

That’s awesome that they want contributions to the site. I bet it’s hard to come across those pieces any more.

My family always gives me a hard time about hanging on to things. 🤷

Their response. Within 9 hours, btw.

Thanks very much for your submission, which is a 6-size 7-jewel Model 14. It’s a new example, which will be added to the charts the next time the site updates.

I guess I just don’t understand how that whole “Jeweled” thing works! innocent

Their response, while greatly appreciated, does not answer many questions beyond the jewel count.

I’d be keen to know what the case faces depict. And what does the extra included carving on the backside indicate.

Do either have meaning besides the obvious?

Was the woman whom the watch was made for a Post & Beam Building Contractor? winky

Also, why the extra artistic flair surrounding the Seth Thomas script on the face that I don’t find in the examples I have looked at?

Maybe more can be answered once the information is added to the site and other folks using the site know more than what is described above and make that information known.

Very interesting, my friend.

Thank you for that!

I do see the exact watch face in one of the examples depicted.

Not that I’d do it, but I do think $50 for a replacement watch face reasonably price.

Thanks again, brother! tup ,

I did not know any of that, @Gpaw!

While I do see indications that someone has been in there - wear on the screw heads - it wasn’t I.

I’ve never messed with it beyond putting a couple of clicks turn on the winding stem. I never wanted to risk damaging it.

Thank you! tup ,

Yeah, up until the time you find out the case faces depict the gates a woman must traverse to a fertile existence!

Pretty cool reading along with this. I have a number of old pocket watches, anything that complicated and mechanical gets my attention.

That looks like a clematis on the watch back and front. One side has a leaf with a flower bud opening. The petals are 5 and the leaf is 3.

Thank you for that, @JoeCrowe! tup

Now, what does it represent? Why use a iconographic representation of a clematis in a personal daily use device?

It must of held some meaning besides their obvious beauty.

As well as the primary, central art. The “Hitching Post” must mean something.

It must mean (represent) some sentiment. That’s how art was typically used.

I’m hoping that the definition of that representational art is not lost to us in present day.

Thank you for your participation, friend! tup

I have three Mk2 Curtas, One was the workhorse, one was the spare (very little usage) and one is still in it original packaging with the manual and warranty card…

They were my father’s, he used them when navigating in car rallies in the 60’s.
I think I was 12 when I took the bottom and shell off one. I just looked in awe at the guts and then very carefully put it back together.

I guess the photos are on the other computer.

Yes, that was the part of the Wiki I did read.

Once liberated from Buchenwald he ran to Austria to escape the Communist Soviets.

A fascinating story. One that should be disseminated. VERY interesting!

Here’s how far I got today…(barely yesterday now! winky)

The first - 1/2 inch system - supplies arrived this AM.

That’s for later.

For now - I laid the new Bulb Seal at a measured distance I think will cause both of the Bulb Seals to compress against each other.

I also reversed the layout of the ends of the new seal to oppose the seal I previously attached to the reservoir in the hope water/nurtrients can’t find a path through. The connecting points are in opposite directions.

I also coped the ends of the 2 sides of the seal you see in image above to lay on top of the new bulb seal in the same hopes of closing even that very small path.

Then knowing a second or one stronger pump would benefit Cloning Machine II I got the idea of using the Return Pump I have in my 5 gallon Flower System Controller Bucket. The thick walled pipe won’t work, not without some trimming here resizing there winky

The pumps are of similar height.

I’ll replace this pump for the Flower system before I get to that stage.

I went out to the nearly 100 year old shed and scrounged a section thin walled pipe of the previous Cloning Machine I.

I did have to modify the I.D. (Inside Diameter) of the thin wall pipe to fit on the nipple on the new to Cloning Machine II system.

I got it close then forced compliance and got the nipple in the pipe past the 1st barb.

The test…

It does seem to be pushing better than the other pumps.

The connection I created is not great. I ‘think’ once the machine is up in place in a static situation it shouldn’t be a problem - but, I can’t guarantee it!

I will try and source some plugs for the hollow legs in an attempt to better close the system to just pushing through the pipes with the nozzles on them - where all the work should be getting done.

I have also decided NOT to use those oddball 2 gallon buckets to put Cloning Machine II on in the loft.

I have decided to put the single cabinet - one of a triplet of cabinets that were left behind by the previous occupants. - that has been in the underloft this entire time back up in the loft for the machine to reside on.

It’s a much better height for my aching back.

BUT, the loft is where they previously resided. I muscled them down off the loft as one of the first things I did when I decided to flower up there! crazy ROFLMAO

They were poorly connected up there. I didn’t realize how poorly connected they were until I hefted them down off the loft and they nearly had a come-apart! ROFLMAO It was no easy task for ‘one person’. Should have been a two man job, but I got it done.

Okay, next step is get that cabinet up in the loft, then Cloning Machine II!

Btw, 7 more days until I can tokie or volcano freely again! woohoo

From that point forward, I won’t be discontinuing again! nonofinger Our amazing Cannabis is my preferred method of medicating for pain and better rest! tup

First, I mentioned in a previous post not be surprised IF I removed the nearly 100 year old repurposed Tongue&Groove flooring in the loft.

One reason I decided against that is because I do need the space quicker than I could accomplish or afford this task.

Another reason is I want to put some proper 3/4 inch decking down AND cover it with Semco or similar product. Neither of which is in my current plans specified above…and cost.

I was thinking of tearing it ALL down and rebuilding it. Just can’t do that at this moment in time.

Now, with that explanation, my next “puzzler” I am open to ideas, suggestions and/or recommendations on.

The wall mounted fan is coming down…so, take that out of the equation.

That dark spot is where the 5 gallon reservoir resided and before I had the leaks/drips worked out. facepalm

Also, I am dreading removing that A/C unit up there. If you recall, I had to devise a moving blanket slide and sling system just to get it up there.

I know I don’t need it up there to Clone/Root in.

I have 2 other working A/C units I could put up there IF ever needed (thanks @Oldjoints!). I just am not looking forward to rigging something up to get it down.

I have another A/C exactly like it in the Classroom here. It doesn’t work at the moment. I have seen it work at the last residence it was used in. I’m pretty sure it should be an easy fix. I’m pretty sure about that because the last time I saw it it had a HUGE accumulation of dust just ALL OVER it. They never cleaned it for some reason unknown to me. I would have quit working under those conditions too! winky

IF I can get the second unit running I won’t ever need the one in the loft in the Classroom. IF. I’d have to dig in to it to figure out IF it is even repairable. IF I can’t figure it out then I’ve wasted ALL of that time spent on it.

However, once I get the attic space built out I WILL need one in the future Attic Bloom Room.

IF I leave that one in the loft then I’m 1/2 way to getting it up in the attic! winky

Also for consideration, the electrical outlet is to the left in the first image. You can see the extension power strip routed under the Poly Shield.

And, there is a hole through the floor just to the right of the A/C unit for additional electrical power and/or water access. Although, for electricity I had to run an extension cord from over where the clothes washer is.

With those considerations, where should I put Cloning Machine II in the loft space?

(oh, I put those lights there temporarily just to have light in that space to work in. They will be hung appropriately when I figure out where they should go).

General space where I think the machine should go…it is currently surrounded on 3 sides by Poly Shield.

Option 1.

Option 2.

Option 3.

Below is same placement, just different camera angle.

I won’t need nearly the same electrical power up there to clone/root in as I did when I flowered up there.

I’m hefty the rest of the Cloning Machine II system up there now. Then I ‘think’ I’m done for this session! winky I still haven’t eaten a ‘meal’ since Sunday…crazy

I’d like to hear your ideas IF you care to offer them. All are welcomed!

Good morning!

Make it a great day! tup
