What are you watching? (TV & Movies)

Yeah, I’m a huge Carpenter fan but never got around to watching that one in particular. Even his “worst” movies are great.

We don’t do traditional TV - local broadcast station offers an app on our Roku TV for news and weather - but we subscribe to multiple streaming services for our entertainment. At any given time my gf and I have several series in progress.

There’s usually a sitcom: Community, 30 Rock, The Good Place, That 70s Show, Arrested Development, Letterkenny,
Eastbound and Down. Currently we’re working through Schitt’s Creek and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

And something sci-fi: The Mandalorian, Star Trek (finished Enterprise recently and started Discovery), we just hit the 11th series of Dr. Who. The Orville was great and bridges the gap between sci-fi and comedy nicely.

We are all over the place when it comes to movies, from esoteric documentaries to period pieces, to blockbuster action.

Last night I was in trim jail and ended up playing Hulu’s stream of Lollapalooza for several hours. It was the first of four nights for the festival. It wasn’t exactly my style of music, but I’m a live music junkie willing to give new things a try. Playboi Carti doesn’t speak to me, but he can sure whip a crowd into a frenzy. It was entertaining enough while my hands and eyes were occupied…

Just watched season 1 of American Gods.
Good stuff there; I am a Neil Gaiman fan already, so I am really hoping for season 3.

Watched The Suicide Squad yesterday. Much better than first. DC seems like they gotta make a really bad movie first then try again and get it right.

Check out his sandman comic. Waiting to be a TV series.

I haven’t seen season 3 yet. Don’t know that I will either, I like the show and the books, but hate that they fired the actor(and wrote out the character)who plays Anansi because they found his messaging problematic during a time of social unrest.

There’s something that bothered me about the (first?) Suicide Squad. Actually there were a few things but the biggest is this- they assembled a team to deal with a problem that didn’t exist, and only in assembling this team did they unleash a reason for the team’s existence. Let’s not even get started on Jared Leto’s Joker.

The first was just all around a bad movie. Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn was it’s only saving grace and aside from Leto(who I just plain do not like)I place no blame on the actors, they did the best they could with the script they had.

Oh yeah I don’t blame the actors either, besides Leto. Just bad writing all around.

Is it just torture porn?

I don’t mind/like some gore and love horror movies but I’m not big on just watching torture porn stuff. You should check out Brawl in Cell Block 99 though if you like grittier stuff.

You never heard of “torture porn”? It’s what they call movies where most of the point if just gory torture scenes. I think the Hostel movies were where the term was coined.
