We never miss Noir Alley on TCM. Excellent noirs with semi in-depth comments by host Eddie Mueller before and following the movie. Sometimes they are crazy ass B movies, sometimes A movies with big stars (sometimes very early in their careers), some are foreign with subtitles (a real PITA for me, but usually worth it), etc. A wide variety of quality films of the past.

We attended Noir Fest last year. As I recall it was 10 films over four days. Took place at the Grand Lake Theater in Oakland, a serious movie palace. Organ comes up through the floor, fabulous lighting and appointments, comfortable seats. And, of course, some folks came all dressed up in fancy period attire. I think someone should go as a second tier private eye. You know, a shabby wide lapeled suit (maybe pinstripe or herringbone), rumpled fedora, scuffed shoes, food stained wide silk tie. Perhaps I’ll do that this year. Whatever I do, it was fun as hell (we don’t normally go to theaters) and we’re definitely looking forward to this year’s.

. I was trying to stick to TV series with 4+ seasons. Finished The 100, Stranger Things, The Umbrella Academy, Lucifer, Blacklist, Outlander.

Trying to stay with Locke and Key but not really catching my interest. Lost In Space, Warrior Nun, Dark Mater, The Sandman, Breaking Bad, got half way through, the boring everyday stuff made me lose interest. May like to see Better Call Saul though.

Not much into prison, zombie, politics (watched the six years of US politics, had enough), cop shows. Liked Backlist as it was different. Sitcoms, nah. Started watching Altered Carbon and realized I have the book so I put off watching it more. Bailed on Ash vs. Evil Dead, had good ratings but I did not click with the first few episodes.

So like escapism, Black Mirror has stand alone shows, like the Twilight Zone, rather get to know characters and follow along rather than watch for a bit and then they are gone. Just some random thoughts.

No! I actually was at the veterinarian when I read & shared with my non-grower friend who showed it to me when he came to Hawaii as my ‘minder’ & ‘spiritual legal advisor’ but I was not impressed or entertained… maybe because I resemble many of the more idiotic ones or am jealous of the pre-christian sex lives? Especially the afro mixed dude… I’d seriously display my napoleonic syndrome in the gladiator circle.

Watch The Boys

Troll on Netflix

Troll was Roar Uthaug watching every Roland Emmerich movie to break down his formula and then does a “Here, hold my beer.” and does an “American Styled Summer Blockbuster Norway Style”.

No freaking joke; it’s seriously like he took notes from Moonfall, and then broke it down so perfectly it’s a near perfect ride!

This director is great! Other films he directed include:

(I don’t feel the need to synopsis the above. lol)

(“Although anticipated, no one is really ready when the mountain pass above the scenic, narrow Norwegian fjord Geiranger collapses and creates an 85-meter high violent tsunami. A geologist is one of those caught in the middle of it.”)

(“Signe, spared from death to produce a child, befriends a little girl, Frigg, and escapes from the camp.”)

Anyone just in this for the Trolls; you MUST WATCH:

(*Note: this is a "Jungle Holocaust / Blair Witch Project styled “found footage / shakey-cam” film. But much like CLOVERFIELD it’s done SO WELL it 100% works! (still giving the warning for folks with motion sickness)

I finally got around to watching We Own This City and it was a great watch despite how scummy those cops were. I really liked that they brought back some of the cast from The Wire since it was set in Baltimore. Landsman as the police chief, Marlo Stanfield as a detective, Herc as the PBA union guy, O-Dog, Poot and Dookie as cops. I’m probably missing some too but it was cool to see them in it.

No, never knew about the movies. I have about a 20 year period where I have not watched movies and have missed a lot.

Now this proves good writing and directing: you obviously would feel bad for the Father… but by the end YOU CARED ABOUT THE “MONSTER”!

I’m so happy you enjoyed it! I ran a video store around 1998-2006 and we ran the place like Empire Records (the movie). Each of us had our favuorites, and niche genres. I was the one considered the go to for horror/sci-fi/indie/art-house and grind-house.

I do miss those days but not the long hours for low pay and always trying ways to make rent and power battling the big-box rental houses up and down the street with our wits and sass.
