The term āassault weaponā was coined to scare people into supporting draconian new laws. The wording was very deliberate. Itās just like what happened with cannabis. It was renamed āmarijuanaā to capitalize on xenophobia. Cannabis came to be associated with non-white Catholic immigrants via a deliberate, false and utterly reprehensible PR campaign.
What bothers me is the same people who say (very correctly) that the War on Drugs (especially cannabis) is ineffective and morally wrong also think gun bans will do any good.
Nice grab, my girlfriend has one of those she picked up for $60. She also grabbed a Ruger takedown and mounted it on a magpul x22 backpacker stockā¦
ā¦ of course as a convicted felon and medical marijuana patient, I cannot touch them and they are stored in a gun safe that is inaccessible to meā¦According to the OED the first record use of the term Assault Rifle was in the San Antonio Light in 1950 (it was a Hearst paper, soā¦).
Other sources point to the Nazis use of the term āSturm Gewehrā
Thatās funny.
I was handed down a little Marlin bolt action youth 22LR. It is the straightest damn shooting plinker!
I love it.
1st pic is the retired daily carry handed down by a close friend great lil pistol except for the ridiculously long trigger pull an reset, 2nd is the new daily though Iāll probably part with it for the micro version, and last but not least is the new pdw for the home a 9mm blowback upper, not finished building it yet as that lower is for my 556 pistol
Aim surplus is running a sale on the montgo-9 upper still can snag it for 350 + tax n shipping
https://www.aimsurplus.com/products/matador-arms-montgo-9-9mm-complete-upper-black
The palmetto state armory 9mm runs around 500 ish
And that sccy 9mm has a lifetime warranty long as you donāt do any modifications.
Can pick those up for around 250
Plan on building this sick lil thing next
Minus the buffer
Looks a little like an MP5, which Iāve always wanted since I was a boy.
If Iām going to have something with that kind of profile, Iād want it in like 300blk. I donāt see much room for a PDW type in my line up, except that badass factor of course.
Yeah Iāve always liked the mp5 but they can keep it for the price they are asking smh.
It was the Germans who did build the first assault rifle. The STG 44 was ahead of its time. Someone finally figured out that small arms engagements are at very close range. The 7.92x33 (or any other intermediate calibers) do well at under 300 meters, and the ability to fire rapidly is a big help. Now, intermediate calibers are the order of the day, and with good reason. Contrary to what some might say, 5.56 or 5.45 are quite effective; donāt let their small size fool you.
Iād love to have an STG 44 clone. Itās probably really fun to shoot. A friend of mine has a 300 Blackout, and it has less recoil and more power than a 5.56. Itās weird how the recoil impulse is so mild. The STG 44 is probably the same, and itās a bit heavier, meaning even less felt recoil.
300 Blackout is an amazing caliber. You can get subsonic rounds, whose performance is similar to .45 ACP or use rounds that are comparable to a 30-30 in terms of ballistics. Other calibers have more range, but hereās the thing: itās highly unlikely that youāll have to fire on anything beyond its max range (300 meters). Chances are the range will be a fraction of that.
It NEEDS a large compensator. Unlike the M82 or M107, it doesnāt have a buffer spring to mitigate the recoil. .50 is a huge round. A 7.62x51 (NATO) is about a 150 grain bullet moving at about 2800 FPS (Feet Per Second), generating about 2600 FPE (Foot-Pounds of Energy). The .50 (12.7x99) is about a 700 grain bullet moving at about same speed, generating about 10,000 FPE.
Oh, and the Geneva Conventions (and all other applicable laws and customs of war) absolutely allow using a .50 against personnel. That rumor was started and spread by people who didnāt know what they were talking about.
How about that .277 fury? Faster than most 5.56 with a 16" barrel, about as heavy as the .308
The .277 Fury (6.8x51) is a good round. Unfortunately, the US Army has decided it needs lots of gadgets, which means that many more things that can go wrong. The shell casing also has a stainless steel face, meaning much higher chamber pressure (and better velocity from a 13-inch barrel). Thatās new, which is to say thatāll likely be a problem.
The civilian model of the Sig Spear will almost certainly function better than the militaryās version. It happens a lot. Read about the M16ās growing pains.
No big gurkhas here. But I do enjoy hunting. So, 20 ga Ithaca SxS, 20 ga bobwhite, .270 Marlin, 50 cal Thompson Center blackpowder, a .223 handi rifle that puts 4 shots in the same hole at 100yds, and a old Ruger Standard .22 that is for rabbits and home invaders.
Kukris are so handy. You can chop/split firewood and skin game.
Those PCCs can drive tacks, compared to a pistol. A more stable platform is always good.
