What, in your view, makes a strain/bud topshelf?

Since our experiences with cannabis are personal and can differ from one person to another I’m curious about what you guys consider topshelf bud. What makes it topshelf? Is it potency? Flavor? Density? Be as specific as you want…

Lovely smell, taste and obviously potency is my must have for any good smoke , though strong narcotic strains ( medicinal, like @Scissor-Hanz says :arrow_heading_up:)
are what i consider top shelf but everything is subjective to the peeps who smoke it., so what I consider T.S others might prefer something else.
Interesting thread…

Interesting. I only grow for head stash, so my top shelf has to have the whole package. It has to smell, taste, and look good. I favor plants that make good hash, so rosin yield comes into play. If it doesn’t squish, it’s mids! :clamp::sweat_drops::fire:

for me it is all about effect, and i don’t mean strength or potency cause i could always smoke more (especially if it tastes real good) but the actual quality of the high. smell, taste and appearance are all second to effect. especially because i’d eventually like to consume mostly gel caps or other non smoking methods.

Great terpenoids profile clean burn has to have no Chem taste to it that’s what top shelf means to me!

I would have to say the one characteristic I look for first is effect, how we’ll it inhibits pain/depression/anxiety.thc/ cbd ratio. Of course next is taste/ smell…we’ve all had that smoke that tastes sooo yummy you just can’t put it down. pretty lookin is always nice, but really what good is that if it doesn’t give you the desired effects…

I like a slightly savory flavor like a quality tequila or scotch.
don’t like it over dried, it should still spring back when squeezed and the white Ash deal isn’t appealing at all.
I like it to burn and keep a cherry like pipe tobacco, likely because that’s how I smoke it.
The terps regardless of strain need to be strong but subtle.
Every body in the building can smell it, but at the same time its not overwhelming .
Lightly trimmed, because let’s face it it’s yours and you’ve got plenty.

For a strain, yield, potency, vigour.

For a bud, smoothness + taste of smoke, beauty of bud, not too paranoia inducing, nice body buzz, muscle relaxant, ability to play video games

I don’t keep my buds on shelves, although I do have a ‘special jar’

Anything with no ceiling and a sativa buzz that lasts over 2 hrs.

Appearance - Don’t really care since it’s about to be turned in to ash and I don’t sit around admiring my buds in the jar.

Smell and taste - Lots of interesting varieties of smells and tastes but not a deal breaker.

I’m short, the stuff on the top shelf is usually mids. That made me think of this next question. What do you smoke first?

I like this response by SkunkmanSam on Hash Church, I always smoke my best stuff first. That way when it’s gone, the next one is still the best, so Im always smoking my best.
