I’ve decided to create this topic to ask what kind of sport you like to practice stoned and if you prefer to smoke before or after the practice?
I’m a Personal Trainer/coach and had experience training or working with many diferent sports modalities (strenght traning, kickboxing, MMA, fencing, running, swimming, triathlon, tennis, beach tenis, sometimes amatour, professional and enthusiast).
The literature is quite short yet, but in general show up may we could have beneficts and disadvantages to use marijuana in sports context. In my point of view, medium and high doses of Cannabis is not ergogenic during the exercise, mainly in sports that you need to make fast decisions, precision and frequently time reaction exigences like combat sports (I know, here is a controvertial point). By contrast, it seems a good idea to use marijuana in recovery time, to sleep better, using on antiiflamatory or analgesic way, to improve the imune system, humor and psicological healthy. Here we could consider indirectly ergogenic.
In my professional experience, me as a personal trainer had clients who used to smoke befor the class, that makes her more focoused and motivate, others feeling well smoking after exercise, a personal friend already use cannabis oil to help to treat his overtraning.
My personaly preference is smoke or vaporize before exercise when is some self controled activity like weigth training, bike or run, it takes me a another level of boddy perception, so it works like a meditation to me.
In the other sports I prefer to smoke after the workout, I keep my mind clean on training and after makes me relaxed and uplifted. Obviously it depends what kind of marijuana you have smoking, particulary I’ve tried to chosen my favorite effect for each situation.
I’m sure if I smoke herb with a good indica effects before training, it would’nt work well.
Understand and make a smart use to diferent ratios of THC:CBD looks a good idea to me. I feel my recovery so mutch better and my insomnia under control.

It would be a waste to consume cannabis before any serious training, but if you’re not a professional or amateur trying to make it you’re just working out and getting some activity anyways no matter what people call it, so consume away if you find it enjoyable.

I’ll consume before strength training, hiking, or cycling. I can get in the meditative zone with it, like you said.
I do some MMA stuff too, but I cannot consume before that. I’ve gone to training blazed before, and my reaction time, movements, and combos feel slow and clumsy. Balance and timing is off. I know BJJ guys who regularly do it before training, but I can’t for MMA.
I park my ass on the couch and watch TV. Does that count as sport?
Jokes aside, I do not like doing physical or mental activity after smoking up. It makes me sober very quickly and that’s a waste of grass for me.
Skateboarding and smoking weed are really good together, the flow.

I’ve noticed a somehat counter-intuitive phenomon related to this. If I’m doing something very active like basketball or gym or cycling, heavy stone-type affects feel better. If I’m doing something inactive like poker or magic:the gathering, zippy high-type affects feel better. The slow pot with fast stuff, or fast pot with slow stuff, weird but creates more “lock in”, focus, or “flow” for me.
Funny enough, I watch a lot of e-sports when stoned.
Getting stoned and hitting some tennis or golf balls is fun as heck. Croquet stoned is fun. Skurfing or wakeboarding stoned is a blast. Surfing on a longboard stoned is a good time. Skating bowls and snake runs stoned is a blast.

Ping pong can get pretty intense.

I know that when I play shooter games there’s no better strain than White Widow. Clarity and focus from the sativa, utter calm from the indica. It would be wild to see if that translated to something like competition shooting IRL ![]()
I smoke before pretty much every run.
I miss those days. Id probably throw out my back now.
I enjoy pool, darts and disc golf. Hardest part is keeping my squirrel focused.
