What to cross to Deep Chunk?

I have some Deep Chunk and I plan on some crosses. I have several in mind, but I’m asking for suggestions for a solid Sativa. Preferably a large yielding (and POTENT) one. I would prefer something like Swazi Gold, or Mango Biche, or Manga Rosa, or something similar. Since Chunk is pure, I want to cross to a pure Sat so I get a stable F1. Suggestions? Richard Williams was running some Deep Congo (DC x Congo) and they got some Donkey Dicks. I don’t wanna use Congo, but am looking for suggestion on what you guys think might combine well. Maybe some Indian Sativas? Tell me what you think might be a good combination.

A Dalat will perfectly fit, i think.

Would you find any space for a Kona Gold IBL? It’s sativa dominant but not pure sativa but I think they’d pair well.

@islandpreservation any of the SE Asians you’re working with?

Another good suggestion that I did not consider. That has potential, thanks!

Howdy @WelderDan, awesome project idea. Mango Biche sounds great. I like the idea of crossing with the longest flowering type that’s known for potency that you can find, so off the top of my head I’d recommend Kerela or something like that, a potent Indian landrace that has long flowering estimates. Many blessings and much love

Yesssss! That is a potent and high yielding strain. Lots of good suggestions!

No problem lmk if you want a flip! I did a repro with 2 males and a girl but I kept her small.

Yes, I think crossing with Odisha Big Bud is a good bet.
Deep Chunk has never been crossed with an Indian Sativa afaik and the outcome would be interesting.
This reminds me that I need to grow some of the Deep Chunk crosses I have.

Though it is a 3 way Columbian-Mexican-Thai cross, it was stabilized, more than 25 years ago, at F8, or better, and is 100% Sativa, and has a Buzz, that will knock ones head, clean off, and is not for casual smokers.
It also can have a great yield, with the right pheno. This is also from original Cannabiogen stock from 2005-2010.

Whatever you use just remember deep chunk is one of those strains that tends to be pretty dominant in most crosses a good Thai or laos would work well I think too

i’d be curious to see how it interacted with vietnamese black for sure. A few of my last run were pretty chunky and amazing. It seems like it would hold it’s own in a cross with deep chunk like haze did with monkey haze. I would find a outrageously resinous keeper DC female and hit it with a good viet male after you learn the line a bit and what to look for in males. then cross it back to viet. But thats’s just me

I have a very small grow space, just a 1x1 and a small cloning/propagation tent.

Plan is:

  1. Sow 5 Malawi Gold seeds at 13/11
  2. When sex shows, clone the females and then remove them and move light to 14/10
  3. Grow out the males and collect pollen from the best male(s)
  4. Sow 5 Freak Chunk (TRSC Deep Chunk line) at 18/6 and veg for 3ish weeks
  5. Flip to 12/12, when sex shows, remove males
  6. Pollinate lower branches of each female Freak Chunk and wrap in plastic to prevent further pollination.
  7. Once ready, harvest Freak Chunk and collect the seeds.
  8. Next plant 4 F1s from the biggest and best yielding Freak Chunk
  9. Meanwhile smoke the Freak Chunk and decide which is the best smoke and plant that on next run.
  10. Clone and keep any of the best F1 plants and name them according to taste/smell/appearance.
  11. Then at some point grow out the best looking Malawi Gold clone (not enough grow space for >1 LR sativa)
  12. At some point maybe a year after running F1s open-pollinate 4 F1s and start growing the F2s to find the weird recessive traits.

No idea how much will actually go to plan and if it will work but excited to see what happens nonetheless.
