First time growing outdoors. Plants are looking pretty healthy, but it is getting later in the summer. When should I give them bloom nutes? I am in central VA.
I’m not an outdoor grower, but I would assume when they start blooming which I would expect to happen in mid to end of august. I’m in southern md.
All of mine here in the Thumb of MI have started their budding, 1 has been for the last few weeks, as soon as I start to see the onset of budding, I start feeding them bloom nutes up until harvest.
I just cut the N back a few weeks before finish, never “flush” never have, never will and all of my smoke for the last 35+ years burns just fine. Proper drying/curing is the key.
I agree on the drying/curing - I always try to dry and cure my indoor grows. My biggest concern there is space, as the outdoor girls are getting big.
I am in VA as mentioned and am just starting to see some pre-flowers. So probably soon for me.
Same. No flush. Just dry and smoke. Gets better with age. I wait to see flowers from and feed tomato feed outdoors. Works a treat
I’m in england
I like to top dress my outdoor plants. Just apply dry ferts to the top layer of soil and gently mix in with your fingers. Repeat every four weeks and you’re good to go. You don’t have to flush outdoor plants because they will stop taking up nutrients and will flush themselves essentially. Best of luck to you.
For my veggies I used to top dress, but this year I have switched to watering from rain barrels, and I add 1/2 to 1/4 strength nutrients to the barrels. Between that and regular rain, things have been pretty good. For flower though, I may just top dress as you say. I have some good homemade compost I can dress with too.
Flower here always hits around the first to the fifth of august.I always put my bloom feeds down at least 2 weeks before the flip twords the middle of July I use dry amendments and supplement with TPS bud builder and hardener so it takes about 2 weeks to chelate the dry amendments so I just try to match it up to go time outside for flower two weeks early.Plants have been building flower sites ever since with no stress
I do what I call micro flushes. 21rst of June, July, Aug, Sept. 2 tsp per gallon of Sledgehammer with a micro dose of balanced nutrients microbe and kelp. Keeps my pot PPMS up and CEC moving clean in my outdoor coco. I start upping my P.K July 21’rst. Open the blooms for the season.
Just food for thought, your concern was flushing, if you’re using chemical ferts, you’re introducing salts that would not normally be present. This can/will affect the natural flushing process if they build up. Could also cause lockout type issues that aren’t normally a concern outdoors. Best wishes with the rest of your season
