When to start pruning

Hey guys, I’m a first time grower just looking for some advice. I’ve read that the best thing for a tall healthy plant is to prune the bottom leaves, but when do I start pruning? I’ve got a nice little Aurora Indica and a beautiful little Afghan Skunk, both 3 weeks old and thriving. Can I start pruning the bottom leaves yet?

Leave it alone unless the leaves get faded or damaged. The leaves absorb the energy from the sun.

I’m no cannabis expert but generally you’d want to wait until you have a lot more growth. The idea is to allow more sun light to lower branches and promote air flow to prevent rot and mildew. Also pruning brancjes and busites that would yield less or airy buds so the plant can focus energy on larger flowers elsewhere. Your a ways off from needing to prune anything yet.

No expert either but I’d have to agree you don’t need to prune anything just yet.

Lollipopping is also a pruning technique that might be worth looking in to if you haven’t already but that isn’t done until you’re getting ready to go in to flower so nothing to worry about for now

Thank you all for the advice, I think I’ll leave them alone for a bit and see how they get on on their own

For myself personally, I try to only prune leaves that are in the way. Lower leaves that get in the way of me top-watering, for example. Or big leaves that are bunched up between branches, and the infamous “cockblocker fan leaves” that will fully block branch-tops that are trying to reach the canopy.

A very poorly drawn example, but:

Pretend the green lines are a small lower branch getting blocked by the big fan leaf (red x), I’d probably pull that leaf but nothing else. Since there isn’t, then IMO don’t cut any leaves yet

Don’t touch anything yet, you’ve topped it once which is good, now let it grow the branches.
You can’t bend it now as it looks too sturdy to accept bending(main stem)
The following 2 branch sites out of the topped area you could bend down in the future as they grow to allow more even growth throughout the plant.
Don’t remove any leaf matter
You have 6 leafs, 100% divide to 6
Every leaf you remove will reduce your growth by the same factor + size of the leaf at hand.
It’s that simple.

The next time you’re “out 'n about”, wander into any Grow Store and ask for a Large Bottle of LITFA!! It won’t cost you anything, but will save you plenty. Seriously, things are looking good, wait a little longer. Wishing you continued success, SS/BW…mister :honeybee: :100:  :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
