What worms do u like to use for composting? Why that species? where do u purchase them? How many do you typically buy to start or boost your colony? And what kind of price on what quantity would u think is a “good deal”?
Red wigglers are good ones for composting.
Those are the ones you’re likely to find when you buy a fresh bag of vermicompost along with a bunch of their eggs.
Buying them while they’re not in soil is a bit cruel.
Ya that’s what I have in my bin currently, been wanting to boost my populations as I’m scaling up on things this year and curious what other ppl do too, I’ve heard some doing African night crawlers, European nightcrawlers and red wigglers but never been able to ask em if they are raising em in the same bins or seperated out. Makes me wonder if there is also gonna be more microbe diversity using multiple breeds or if the castings are pretty much the same
I’d agree they need to be kept in their media and in darkness, anytime I screen the bins and put them in their new home they always get a nice scoop of their poop thrown back in and fresh fan leaves or garden clippings to work on
