Who has Forest Fire Experience with Outdoor Plants "ASH"

What’s the protocol for best ash removal?

Wait until smoke and ash clears to shake bushes?

Or do it several times a day until it clears.

Should I do anything else?

Peace

Can you spray them down with a hose?

ya I can spray them down with a several different nozzels. Since ash is still falling I’m thinking wait until the winds turns and shake well several times and then use the fine mist nozzel or you think I should hit them with a heavier spray? @Oldtimerunderground @Oldjoints

Just use it on heavy sprinkle, ash is pretty light and easily hosed off.

Yeah I would wait for the winds to change direction, then shake and spray. You’ll probably want to do it twice too, cause ash is caustic. The plants should be okay though, they’re big and healthy.

I pretty much waited till the ash quit then hosed them off . Didn’t seem to effect them I’m sure a good rain would do the same thing. Maybe a soft brush to sweep it off also.

Praying for the town of Oakridge just east of us. They are Evac now. We lost the whole town of Blue River up the McKenzie River in 2020

If you get blanketed with ash, it might cause problems. I knew it did something, but couldn’t remember. This page says some stuff…

“This brings us to wood ash. Wood ash is high in potassium and is applied to soil to increase the presence of this element. In Southern California, however, potassium is usually not lacking in the soil. In addition, wood ash contains abundant calcium, an element that elevates soil pH, a negative in our area since native soil pH is usually too high in any case.
Wood ash, when heavily applied, also increases soil salinity that is detrimental to plant growth. On the plus side, wood ash is prized for its desiccating attribute, which makes it repellent to snails, slugs and soft-bodied insects.”

Good luck man, I’m up in PDX and the sun hasn’t come out today because of the smoke. Looks way worse down south though. Wishing the best for your ladies…

I’ve heard of using leaf blowers. Indirect blast. I’ve had it bad before. I do a lot of foliar, so I wash my outdoor anyways. Rinse water looked like a colonoscopy prep. Ash, sprays, bug shit, etc. Bud washing’s a pain, but worth it for my health.
