Im early flower but wanted to figure out my approach before it gets too bushy. They should discolor and fall off on their own like a photoperiod correct once flowering starts chugging along

Sorry once they get yellow pull on them gently and if doesnt come off not ready…Yellow leaf blocking bud site no good get rid of correct??

Yes once they’re yellowing i always remove them. If they’re blocking light to a sight i block them regardless. I always remove all the fan leaves besides the top few due to lighting.

Okay thanks is there a specific time thats better to remove these big top fan leaves. Im at day 31 right now. I dont mind leaving them to help photosynthesis i just dont want them becoming a problem or hindering bud development

My research (debacco university on YouTube) shows that low stress methods are best for autos. So no defoliation. Tucking fan leaves is what I read is recommended. Tuck and hide the fan leaves under the bud sites

Just research, haven’t tested it yet

I tried tucking those twice lol they just spring back an hour later

Maybe try a pack of these?

Autos are hit/miss since they’re not the most stable compared to fems. I personally laugh whenever i see someone tuck leaves. Leaves are essentially solar panels, you may as well just remove them rather then being afraid it may stun the plant removing them.

I have used them, i like them.

Debaccos reasoning was this; autos go into flower based on stress. Roots can’t grow any more in the first pot, flower. Top + water stress, flower. Major defoliation, flower. Do everything right and it will hit root growth stress and still flower

Essentially if you do anything other than low stress training, you are increasing the speed when the plant will flower by causing extra stress.

So the reasoning for the tucking is to remove the leaf by hiding it without adding any stress to the plant.

If it’s already flowering I think high stress like cutting leaves is fine, so long as they are useless.

Debacco runs a cannabis education program at some university. Personally I don’t have experience on this but that is what I remember from the research. I wouldn’t disagree with cutting the leaves just sharing some research

No no i understand thanks

I havent done any defoliation besides pulling the first set of leaves near the bottoms and a few small nutrient burned leaves. I am trying to let them do their own thing so i dont disturb them you know. Just dont wanna have a small yield cause the big fan leaves are in the way

Is it flowering?

Yeah with autos there is a chance that they can stun from stress and flower. Honestly genetics are most important when it comes to it. Every pheno is different, some can’t handle stress at all meanwhile others aren’t as bothered. Some people start autos in solos then trans plant and train after two weeks. I have seen people heavily stress autos and pull a few ounces.
