Who owns an antique car nowadays?

It’s a damn shame seeing this. But I had no choice this year  I’m sorry.

Nice Monte… underrated imo.

Thanks, it’s crazy now how everyone wants the chevelles and the novas when the montecarlo was the luxury model when released.

I love the chevelle. Parents owned a 69 ss396 4spd. I like some of the others more that aren’t as popular. Had the chance to rebuild a 72 Hurst cutlass. Just didn’t have the time and money. Was a free car too.

I’m not a ford guy at all, but I can appreciate a good build. Lil Stang coming along nicely, I’d love to pull up on it when you’re done, on the highway a nice straight stretch just to see if that pretty little motor got any guts…

Just a little small block 302 built with spare parts. Have it stripped down with rear seat delete to under 3000#. Ended up trading the project for the 388 stroker for the C-10…

My first car was a restomod 1970 Mustang when I was 16. It had a reasonably built 4bbl 302. I absolutely have no idea how I survived. Then I had a '74 Bronco. Loved that, wish I still had it. After that, it was modern cars until now; I’ve got an '87 Suzuki Samurai, which is well on its way to becoming an antique, if it isn’t already.

I gotta say, the stress of older cars is rough. I love the character, though. Sometimes, I’m jealous of simple reliability and comfort.

My 89 fox started as a 2.3, I swapped it to 5.0 but now I’ve got a crazy idea to go to a 2.3 ecoboost with cobra IRS rear end… it would be a cornering monster lol

The Ecoboost is a bad little motor, don’t use the 10 speed tranny though, only thing I hate about my 2019. F-150

I havnt even begun to look at whats needed for the swap nevermind trans options lol was just a stoned thought the other day. In a perfect world tge 2.3 eco mustangs tranny would line up but I highly doubt that

I had a 1965 2+2 and a 1986 Cobra GT that I bought new. Wish I had both of them today.

I dont know how you guys manage anymore, running hot cars is so expensive now, called about machine work hundred plus a hole, throw in hot tank align bore magna, deck,…was like wow.

And for Pontiac parts you can add 25-50% and you better find a machinist that knows their quirks … I have a spare virgin 70’ 400 block as they ain’t makin no more. Have to go up and have him blueprint the bow tie stroker. Not looking forward to that tab And if I have it put on the dyno that’s another 600. Have all forged internals so it should be pretty bulletproof, the Manly rods are parts porn, forged and polished H beam…

I bought a 64 convert gto from a guy who was at gm tech, he borrowed heads from a plant somewhere
they had different ports, put them on a ram air 4 400 block 11 to 1, idled around 1100 barely. I took trophys with it, the tech at the dragstrip just read the 326 emblem looked, didnt know pontiac from oz, and i was in some purestock class turning 12’s, I was right outa high school not alot of money borrowed my friends tires lol, love ponchos have had a 65 fastback 2 door catalina that from the factory had a 421, 4 speed 2 door hurst shiter. 2 firebirds one was a GTA with the L88 chevy engine form the factory. Yeah know about paying more

My first car was a used 96 Subaru SVX, I really recommend those cars they go cheap these days but they are a well designed musclecar / luxury cruiser, and way overbuilt. One of subaru’s only boxer 6 engines. Sold for $60,000 dollars in 1992, but Subaru still lost about $60,000 dollars on every one of these they sold.

You can find them in good shape for under 8k, you literally cannot get more car for your money than this.

The only other one that comes close to this in terms of actual material value vs. current price I can think of is the 02 to 06 Volkswagen Phaeton luxury sedan. They lost close to $80k on every one they sold.

These aren’t antique yet, but they are in danger of disappearing and being discarded as nothing more than old beaters. Just like the old muscle cars of 60’s were disregarded during the 80s.

I had the chance to drive one. Was pretty fun… didn’t like the windows tho

Haha yeah it was designed Giugiaro Italdesign, very unique but not super practical.

I always liked the Lamborghini windows, people would mistake it for an exotic. It really was like having an old lamborghini without the expensive maintenance.

I had that car when I lived in SF, I remember people would yell to me as I was driving around,

One time a yuppie tech guy was like “your ferrari is a piece of shit!”

and I was like “thank you!”

hahaha

and occasionally people would actually recognize it, whenever I would drive through the projects the guys hanging out on the corner would be excited to see the car, and call out something like
“That subaru is HELLA CLEAN!”
