I told my wife I wanted to get a black robe for when I have to cull birds. She said I was going to “freak out the neighbors” I just think it would be funny. Then again I have messed up sense of humor.

@OHGrow21666 I found a costume bear head in a loading bay being thrown out so I took it home and am waiting for my maple tree to have leaves again so I can hide it in the middle of the canopy.

When fall comes my hope is that there is a squirrel ready to over winter inside it and using the eye holes as their in/out.

I’m also always on the lookout for dolls on garbage day so I can hang them in amongst the branches so it get’s nice and “Fuck-off creepy” in the fall/winter/spring

There are 3 breeds of chickens that come entirely black, Ayam Cemani, Svart Honas and then there are black feathered silkie chickens, though the silkie’s comb isn’t black. All give black meat as well. I hear the meat is richer in taste.
Put my chick and his mommy back in the general coop yesterday morning. It went well all day yesterday but this morning I find myself quite anxious about checking up on the lil girl. Confident it’s a girl since I saw her drop a poopie after a feather ruffle yesterday, and I don’t think roos ruffle feathers to drop shit. They just drop it, roosters gotta crow, guard, dance and roost, they ain’t got time to ruffle no feathers. But chickens are gentle droppers, quite aware of their buttock happenings cause once a day an egg is gonna pop out.

Having chicks is great, but the stress it brings when they come in winter is beyond helpful…

Kosovar Crower? Or a Denizli?

@Wizzlez no idea.

Thanks for the info though! We would be aiming for laying hens as the regulations when/if this is to happen doesn’t allow for urban hens for meat. :v:

You forgot the quotes…" epidemic"
Police state indeed.

I’m looking at Rhode Island Reds for their ability to raise babies. It’s a trait that is disappearing due to domestication.
Any other cold hardy baby raising breeds recommended ?

Well, technically, the breed of the chicken doesn’t matter as long as you use them as layers. Any chicken is a layer; and any chicken can be eaten for it’s meat…

The Laughing chickens are excellent layers.

Laying breeds often lay very well for only a couple years then they drop in production leaving you with the choice of eather culling chickens or feeding “useless” animals after about 2 years. There’s a lot more to think about in a chicken breed than just it’s “reported use”.

Interesting.

Hey, I have that same axe!

At this point they would be pets that eat the bugs, provide guano for the compost heap and endless entertainment as miniature :t_rex: .

My point exactly. When they are pets, there’s no real need for a production layer breed, as it’s half pet half producer. Might as well go with a breed you can fall in love with. Ever seen a kid with a Serama chicken just sitting still on it’s hand out of free will? Not good layers, but they don’t eat much either, nor take up much space so having one would still be considered a bonus to your life.

Yeah they sure are miniature dino’s.

That Roosters face reminds me of the masks local “anti-renters” wore locally here in the 1840’s-50’s.
Super creepy.

These were local tenant farmers rebelling against their landlords that charged crazy rent.
Classic rooster video. Lol
