Why are you here?

I just want to know why-

Seems like OG means old guy…

(Sorry gals)

I don’t want free seeds.

I’m not really interested in the “I know everything and you suck” mentality either…

I don’t want to take your money, or devise some crazy way to rip you off…

I actually want to help younger growers succeed

I’m here for the knowledge a lot can be learned through casual lurking as well I’m here because I love growing love learning how to grow and love seeing other peoples grow no one I know in person grows so the forum is a nice place to share

But what if, the younger generation suddenly knows it all after a few grows, and sees us as bitchy old grouchy jackasses that do nothing but irritate the fresh young geniuses that are breeding the 300$ packs of this current day and age???

Spent a lot of time on forums in the past, Breedbay was where I spent most of my time.

Was a real community spirit, with a mission. I think thats why I like OG, it reminds me of it in many ways.

Im not here for seeds or handouts of any kind.
I dont have much to offer, but I’ll share what I have, even if that is just limited knowledge or an encouraging word. And for me its a way to keep learning.

I dont do social media at all. I feel like most of the forums have been replaced by social media platforms and this is the best way for me to keep up to date without joining IG or similar.

I’m here because I have never grown marijuana, never had the chance, had no clue what I was doing, and didn’t want to waste my money/time/fuck up.

I arrived here after searching for bonsai mother plants on Google.
I never participated in other forums, people were very rude, they treated each other badly.
I didn’t know about free seeds when I joined, I always planted unknown seeds.

I’ve never planted under light bulbs, I believe the security of planting and knowing that someone will be ready to help is one of the reasons I’m here.

Another reason, maybe more helps more, everyone is humble and friendly, my wife is jealous .

To look for old OG friends that I’ve traded genetics with and so far I haven’t found any…Tokahontas & Naked Stone Chick are the ones I would love to give my genetics to.

LOL… You mean “thinks” they know it all. I’m well versed, but my measure of intelligence is not what you can recite, its how much you can absorb, and well, thats a life-long endeavor. Mom always said “The day you die is the day you stop learning”

I have FB mainly to keep in touch with HS / College / Travelling friends, but its not knowledge, its like toilet reading at best. Social media to me is the “Hey look at ME” version of media, whereas forums like this tend to actually hold useful info, and people happy to share it.

As for why I am here? I browsed without an account years ago, was my way of remaining anonymous. A friend reminded me of OG earlier this year, and I stumbled back across is during one of my many knowledge searches on the web. I decided to plant my flag and stay a while sheerly because of the generousity here, and I don’t mean just seeds. The collective knowledge here is amazing, even for an old guy like me who’s learned a lot already, there’s always more to learn, new techniques (right @JohnnyPotseed ?), and honestly, the banter and trivia can be lots of fun.

Availability of some good genetics doesn’t hurt, but if it didn’t feel like the community it is, I wouldn’t stick around. I get the feeling that most on OG truly enjoy helping others and seeing them have success, and well, I do enjoy teaching and sharing ideas (and typing book like posts) LOL.

But really, if ya wanna know why I am here, I’m gonna say because mom and dad did the nono-chacha one night. They had no idea they were creating a perpetual student. LOL

I’m here because I want to learn. I spend more time reading than I do anything else.
I had never grew indoor untill relatively recently and the wealth of information on the site made me feel confident I could grow indoors. So far so good  on that front.
I’m used to down and dirty set it and forget it gorilla growing so learning indoor has been a wild ride to say the least… but I get better every run with the knowledge I glean from here.

I’m here because I have a thirst for knowledge and I love to see what others are growing and doing. The one thing I know is that there’s always someone who is more knowledgeable about a subject than I am…so I want to learn from those people too. I’m also here because I’m still seeking a Seed Buyers Anonymous meeting that works…

I’m definitely not seeking handouts because I have more seeds than I need already. Choosing what to grow next is a fun game when you’ve basically got a seed bank in your fridge. LOL

Yup. I learn something new every day. Every grow.

Why? I found some nice people here.

I’ve convinced myself it must exist…but I’m still searching. At any rate, I figure I’m in good company while the search continues.

Great thread!

I came here for about a year before I actually signed up to learn a bit about growing and see what people were saying about certain breeders and seedbanks. I discovered growing then the Potcast and got HOOKED from the first episode. I listened to every single one… sometimes 2 or 3 times. Learned a lot and got really into the folklore of strains and breeders. Anyway I came here to see what ppl were saying about certain breeders and seedbanks and discovered that there were a lot of ppl with the same passions.

One day I decided to get involved in the conversation because ppl here are actually pretty cool. I participated in a JOTI group buy and that’s when I just knew I had found a group of ppl with the same passions about this plant. I decided to become much more involved and now really feel the urge to give back to this community. I have already been able to get to know a few of the members a little more personally and I have to say that this place is pretty cool for an internet forum. I feel like it’s more than that. It wasn’t until a bit later that I learned about the seed runs and free seeds and all that and it was literally overwhelming. What a great community! It’s not why I’m here or why I stayed but it definitely fits into my belief that this beautiful plant is meant to be shared and to heal people. Growing has changed my life for the better and I have this place to thank for that. I definitely want to be in a place where I can return the favour of giving seeds out to everybody! One day…
