Why I Love Octopots and how I got here

I love Octopots hands down.

But that comes with a few caveats and reasons.

Some background. I grew for many years using a Bubble ponics system I bought of the web with great success. But I had easy access to water which made the weekly reservoir changes easy. PH balancing was always an issue.

I then switched to DWC and also had great success. But again had easy access to water for the weekly water changes. But Again PH balancing was also an issue.

I moved to a new home and then went organic, water only soil. This is about when I switched from Photos to Autos. Of course my Helicopter style ensured I over watered and stunted them lol. But I stuck with it and eventually dialed in my watering. I had so so yields and the daily watering was problematic for me.

So I began searching for a low maintenance, quiet, system that required less hands on and no weekly water change outs/draining and mostly no potential leaks. Leaking water is an absolute no where I’m currently at.

This is when I found and began researching Octopots and Autopots. I decided on Octopots as I like the hybrid nature of this system.

I purchased a 6 gallon version and gave it a go. I was rewarded with no stunting as they water themsleves. I started using AD PH perfect to deal with potential PH issues. I only had to water every 4-5 days, via the reservoir, although I check on them daily plucking or tucking leaves as needed and just spending time decompressing and enjoying them.

Well I was rewarded with 22 zips from a FB OG kush. I’ve had similar results with NO and TT.

I have found my soulmate relative to growing and my growing style. But it did take some time and effort to find ā€œmyā€ style. But it has been so much fun and rewarding to experiment. Sure I failed and I sometimes had subpar results but I took everything in and learned from my mistakes.

I’m currently in a no grow state so I’m on the sidelines watching all of you that can grow and enjoying your success!

I encourage all new growers to experiment, research, and chat with folks that use different systems. You will eventually find the system for you and will never want to buy Dispensary bunk ever again.

Good luck out there Growmies!

You know, you TECHNICALLY don’t have to PH your water with the Octopots as the 2 root zones will take what it needs when it needs it with no PH lock out. I never PH my water when using my octo’s. Just something to think about.

Octopots are so easy, they’re boring.

I’ve tried about everything from deep water culture, to aeroponics(sucks!), to drip systems, to sea of green in 1 gallons, to 3 gallon plastic, then grow bags, when they became popular 15 years ago. Then I tried Octopots.

Due to my schedule, regular pots need watering too often, hydro is too twitchy, grow bags dry out too fast. With Octopots, I can leave a large plant for ten days, with virtually zero issues. Now, I use a 50/50 ProMix/Foxfarm Ocean Forest or Happy Frog, and nothing but water, seed to harvest. Might add some extra worm castings and perlite if I have it, or home made compost. Best tasting organic weed ever, no muss, no fuss. And Octopots grow HUGE plants. Once the roots hit the reservoir, usually 2-3 weeks, watch out! Plus, 2 Octopots will easily yield what 6-9 3 gallon grow bags will.

I’ve always been an organic fan, and Octopots make that super easy. Of course, I’ve tried adding guanos, Terp Teas, etc to the reservoir, but that’s generally a bad idea, as without aeration, they’ll go anaerobic fast, AND stink! So I just plant ā€˜em, and let ā€˜em ride. If they do need a boost, I’ll top dress with some organics once during the grow. I know, I know, Octopots say don’t top water, but once roots are established, no harm done, as the bag dries out pretty fast. If I go on vacation, I just fill the six gallons reservoir to the brim, and they’re fine for a week or two, depending on flowering stage.

Here’s a Super Lemon Haze in Octo, almost 12/12 from seed, yielded 7 oz. You have to be careful vegging too long in a small space, as plants can overgrow my space pretty fast.

This is the way! Like you I’ve tried a bunch of systems and methods and once I tried an Octopot, I knew it was for me.
I just used pro Mix and AN Ph perfect nutes and couldn’t have been happier with the results.
I’m chomping at the bit to get back into it but in the meantime will continue to enjoy all the folks pics and info on their own grows :+1:

I had the same, enviable situation, where I had plants grow too big for my 2x4x72 tent. As I plan for when I can grow again I too am considering getting rid of the tents and framing out a 2x6x84 area.
Nothing else I tried grew them as tall and wide as Octopots.

Growmie, as I stated, I’ve tried a bunch of methods and this one is hands down the best.
While I sit with the ladies everyday, if I’m gone for a week I do not worry at all.
Proceed with confidence.

I like to chime in when I see octopots & lazy.
Add the autofill & a big reservoir and hoooweee you’re getting some serious time back.
I’m trying another method now with the idea of saving space but after the transplant I can tell you I’m missing octopots. No waste water with octopots too I’m missing that benefit. Really a nice system. Crazy the only downfall for me was they get too big
