Why Landrace Strains Still Matter - your thoughts on this video?

Let me say up front that I am not a breeder. I aspire to be. Guess thats why I want yout thoughts on this. I took the time to read most if not all of the comments. Maybe it’s just me, as a nube to this topic, but it was eye opening and i have lots of thoughts and questions.

Personally I can’t really listen to those guys for more than 90 seconds. They poorly regurgitate answers and topics they heard 10 other people talk about before they ever got to the topic, there are so many better people to listen to. Go try Archive’s channel, The Potcast, GrowCast or plenty of shows on The Future Cannabis Project just to name a few better resources.

With that said, there is lots of value in landrace varieties as they are the keys to breaking bottle necks in modern breeding projects. But true landrace varieties are becoming a bit harder to come accross as many of those genepools are beimg breb with more modern varieties. But as it was said, a landrace variety is just selected over generations to grow best within a certain environment. These bring some fresh genes into the pool but aren’t required the same way when growing indoors.

Inside we can control our environments and therefor don’t need to select the same way formenvironmental pressures. The flowering times, environmental resistance and other features become merely desirable traits rather than necessities when growing. So using landrace varieties are not essential for breeding indoors compared to breeding for outdoor varieties.

It all comes down to intention. There are seed companies that are still collecting seed from traditional growing regions or working those lines. So if they really intrest you go digging into some of the work those breeders do. There are also breeders who are working those more traditional cultivars into more modern lines and that may be a good starting point for you as well.

When all is said and done, I don’t think landrace varieties are an essential part of breeding, but can br a good tool. Current varieties do have most of those same genetic potential within they just need to be selected for those traits.

I cant watch videos like that.

Id rather read 1000 forum posts of broken english and no punctuation than watch people who make $ off views try to explain stuff to me

The still image gives me all the info i need

They do matter. Because everything mainstream, like cookies, runtz, gelato, ice-cream cake, wedding cake and so on so fourth aren’t much different from each other.

The genetic diversity/pool is SHRINKING in modern mainstream cannabis.

Also EVERYTHING is basically some sort of hashplant poly hybrid basically. As another grower here said roughly…

“It’s false sense of choice, an illusion.”

Landraces have unique affects and terpenes that honestly encompass a much more dynamic high.

The sativas imo are extremely overlooked. Really anything flowering 12 weeks is RARE to see it grown to it’s full potential in the mass market.

13-20 week strains are nearly impossible to find for most. So you have to grow them to experience them.

The Landrace indicas are also interesting, china Yunnan from ACE is described as a more intellectual and conscious indica.

Now onto my experiences.
I started off with solfire and clearwater genetics. While good, most strains were pretty bland besides gargantua from clearwater.

Even then the effects while powerful aren’t that interesting.

My favorite part about using Landrace hybrids (I have congo ripper and Maharaja Haze flowering now), is the smell.

My god, the smells you get from these plants are so diverse and unique. They’re much more enticing than modern cannabis. Primal smells of fruits, lavender, incense, menthol, mint etc.

Their terps are just more interesting and aromatic.
Vaped a few samples of my congo ripper and so far it’s what I’m looking for.

A crazy head ripping sativa, a true sativa not that dispo or black market stuff.

I love landrace hybrids and plant on growing Mangi A5 haze, Thaidelica, and maybe Kullu Valley very soon.

Irie genetics Congo ripper #5

Congo ripper #1

Khalifa genetics maharaja haze

Mandala seeds beyond the brain

They’re so damn overlooked it’s a shame really.

Now worked IBL like Kullu Valley are landraces I’m after.

Pure wild landraces are not something I’m trying to get into, those require a ton of work.

I don’t watch any video staring a guy with a hat brim that isn’t curved.

And they aren’t disappearing. Disappearing from commercial, not that they were ever there, maybe, but not disappearing.

But you’re free to go into the jungles of Indonesia to find the next big thing.

Thanks 4 ur input. I’ve just recently got n2 growin. So I’ve been buyin my medicine. Either at the dispo here n missouri or black market. Its nearly impossible 2 find any “true” sativas that i like. I really want some of them back.

Damn. Lookin good. I love me some Haze. I’ve got some Purple Heart seeds from Irie. Not sure of there genetics though.

I get it. I said i was a nube.

I thought I was only one out there that hated the hipster flat brim look on all these 40 plus aged breeders out there.

His congo ripper is excellent

One pheno smells of Mango, lime, lavender. It’s very floural.

The other I think is more mango lime incense. This pheno is smaller.

I have clones as well, they smell so damn good there’s no way I can get rid of them lol

Honestly I don’t understand why breeders and growers can’t just look like regular dudes lol. I do see an assimilation in their style.

I watched the video, it was alright. One of the dudes is clueless imo but it was informative.

Mr Grow it should just pod casts with Todd mccormick and Rasta Jeff imo but that’s off topic

Its super interesting!

I think the issue is, videos are not good for discussion.

Forums are people chatting and talking and discussion is taking place, even if its not truly relevant.

Videos, are just like a general waving in your direction a giant list, and you have no way to respond or correct or offer any other opinion other than making a new video. The video creator is the opinion.

Seems like a very indirect way to get to the knowledge.

Theres threads on here of thousands of members, many with direct experience that these guys claim to have, and thats going to be a much better sample to provide information than a single video with dubious intentions

I look pretty normal myself. Wear a dirty, old, curved brim hat. Do own a few newer 1’s 4 special occasions.
