Hello OG
Recently my grow has been struggling and I’ve been brainstorming ideas to get away from my current setup.
Currently I have a 2x2 for veg and a 2x4 for flowering. This is all the space I’m allowed to have.
I keep 3 moms in 1 gallon coco pots and I veg my plants in 3” pots through veg. They finish about 12” and get transplanted straight to flowering. Currently I have no issues with my veg process.
For flowering, the 3” pots get bumped to a 1 gallon coco pot and go to finish.
Flowering has been an issue and I’m really just over it. Everything was fine the last 18 months or so but in the last few months things have gone to shit. Something has gone off and after a couple batches of trying to troubleshoot I’m ready to admit defeat.
All that to say, here is my new idea.
Continue to veg exactly as I am in coco 3” pots but transplant these for flowering into soil.
Given that the coco pots would be so small I feel like they should be able to move into soil just fine.
Anyone doing anything like this?
Typically I do 3 gallon pots for soil but think I can get away with 2 gallons given the smaller veg pot?

I expect the coco/soil transition would be just fine.
What issues have you been running into?

I think you’re fine. What you are suggesting is similar IMO to when I go from rock wool cubes into soil, or when I go soil-less mix into organics.
Maybe just look into adjusting the feed as they transition with more focus on the underground action for the initial week after transplanting vs worrying about the canopy.
What variables changed? Are you using the same brand of coco? Do you charge your coco or buy a precharged brand?
Gonna call the
on @DougDawson as he’s a King of Coco and I really wanna know what may be going on even though it’s a side-quest to your coco to soil question.
I’m a sucker for side-quests… they’re really compatible with my serious ADHD.

It’s related somehow to my nutrients and watering I can say that for sure. I currently use Floraflex coco and nutrients and no real changes unless there were things on their end.
It looks like a Cal Mag issue to start then to nutrient burn. It’s always been a problem since I switched to coco but it was very minor and harvests were still amazing. Now it’s started to like completely overtake the plant and it’s a race to finish or death it feels like.
Switching back to soil though just feels like the easy choice.

Thank you all for the reassurance though. I think I’ll give it a try next flip

You should give us the full rundown on your feeding schedule, inputs, etc… I know a lot of people recommend calcium and or magnesium and it’s hard not to… but it sounds like the manufacturer recommends adjusting the the recipe for additional inputs like Cal mag… I have never used this line, but I know each nutrient company uses these things differently in their mixes. It’s easy to throw off their mixes. Maybe look into this and see if it has something to do with your issue… Cheers !!!

I think you’re exactly right. Their formula is not designed for added cal mag but I think because of popular demand they added this to it. That said, I have not been able to find a blend that works. I have tried their recipe both with and without cal mag. Initially it seemed to work well but that has changed obviously. I weighed changing brands and trying again but I’m much more experienced with soil and dwc so if I change I think I’ll just go back to what I know.
But if you got any ideas I’ll at least hear em out lol. As far as what I feed now.
I water once daily (may also be contributing to the issues)
For flowering I feed
2.5ml/g cal mag
2.5g/g base 1 and 2
1.25g/g flower booster
EC 2.2
PH 5.9-6.0, runoff ph matches input
~25% runoff

I’m not familiar so I’m not even gonna take a swing without having some experience with it, but I do believe your background in DWC probably led you to the right path your inputs are definitely similar to a lot of people I know just different manufacturers… Cheers !!!
