These seeds were a gift from @GCBudz during the veterans giveaway a few years ago, haven’t had time to grow them out until now.
I dropped six beans in coco, poke-and-pray style, and unfortunately only got three to come up. Looking for a female I can keep, and willing to let any males stick around if they’re looking strong. I have four more beans in reserve depending on what these show!
Giving them a daily feed till runoff, seeing the little guy catch up a bit as a result. I think this coco I’ve been getting is a bit off, maybe need to switch brands again, I’ve been seeing this stunting early on a lot lately.
Veeeeerrryy Tangie looking at this stage, the leaf shape is super familiar. Noticing the short one is probably male, and also possibly the taller less densely branched one.
That’d actually be fine this run, I can pot up a size of I only get one female and do a more extensive flowering.
Mild defoliation to make sure all the lowers are out in the open; the suspected female is in the center, two possible males to the left, Panamagoo from clone on the far right.
Going to wait a bit to really make sure the sexing is accurate, and then I’ll take clones/flower. Probably going to only keep one male from these, selecting mainly on smell once they get a bit further into pre flowering.
Scrapped the smaller of the two males based purely on smell. The small one was kind of a skunky burned rubber, and the one I kept has clear notes of tangerine cream from the Tangie parent. That, plus the one I’m hanging on to is way larger and more vigorous, kind of a no brainer.
Going to let these go a few more days then take a tray of clones and flip to flower. The Panamagoo needs the lights to go down, she’s light stressing big time.
I’m going to pop more of these and try to keep two or three of each sex, but for now a bird in a hand and all that, so going to definitely clone these two for now and then see how they stack up against future siblings.
If there’s a miracle-male I may line breed these a bit, but if not then the goal is to find a female and pollinate her with something sativaish.
The tray is from Target, one of those under the bed storage bins that’s just slightly smaller than 2x4.
In terms of genetics, these are half-auto, where the moms were feminized auto flowers from Night Owl and the dads are regular photoperiod. Not seeing anything from these that scream autoflowering at the moment, males usually show balls around this stage, especially in small containers like these.
Thank you. I’ll check out Target. I bought a 2x4 tray at a grow store awhile back, and wouldn’t you know, the 2x4 tent is too small to accommodate it. Did you want to select for autoflowering?
Not looking for autoflowering, no, ideally though I’ll find something that finishes quickly due to some of the autoflower genes. I’ve grown both parents on their own and really enjoyed the smoke, so hoping this hybrid is a nice blend of the two where I can find a keeper female worth making seeds with. But ideally they’ll be fast photos.
Topped the ZamexTang to encourage the side branches to flesh out, and stripped all the nodes out of the canopy, leaving only the last three growth tips on each branch. Going to let these veg a bit more and then probably put down a layer of netting to spread out the canopy evenly, especially on the Panamagoo who needs to be trained to yield anything worthwhile
