I tried putting one on a cow once that wasn’t a milker, but was in the stall. She kicked the little machine clear across the barn. Close call for me, the farmer just laughed.

I have never had a first hand experience with a cow that wasn’t at a petting zoo or a farm 20’ away.
I think the cows prefer it that way.
I’m just glad that I didn’t pick her to get some fresh, warm milk from. 
That would have been my head.
